Flowers For Algernon Posted: 4 months ago by 2manyusernames
The classic and heartbreaking story is told in blog format. The book is told via diary entries from Charlie so it is perfect as a blog. Due to the blog format of latest entry being on top, you must read it backwards. Start with the oldest entry dated martch 5, 1965

Such a sad story! I must be a masochist reading it again.

[Edit:]I would like to add that I am in fact, a jean-ass.

I preferred the original short story to Keyes' novel, but still a terrific tale all around.

I'd rather read the novel, thank you, than this. This was nice, but the novel gives one so much more context and environmental detail, rather than just the journal entries. But for anyone (gasp!) who hasn't read it, this is a good Cole's Notes version, I guess.

It occurs to me that the syntax and level of comprehension suggested by Charlie's pre-op and post-deterioration comments are mirrored in today's repartee served-up on on-line venues like YouTube. It's enough to make you weep.

Like Bingo, I read this story a while back, but have never forgotten it. It's one of those stories you do come back to again and again.

In some ways, it reminds me of the movie Awakenings (Robin Williams et al). I won't spoil it for you, but recommend it.

Wow, I just read this last year. What a great book. Weird to read it as a blog, though.

There was also a movie in the late sixties. Cliff Robertson won bets actor for Charlie.

As a kid I memorized Charlie's punctuation assignment. It went something like :

Add punctuation to make sense of the following:

that that is is that that is not is not is that it it is
