Ordering from the 'secret' menu at fast food restaurants
Ever had a neopolitan milkshake from McDonald ’s? How 'bout a pizza sub at Subway's? Ordering off the menu at fast food restaurants is a great deal. There are all these little surprises just waiting to be discovered. picked by cactushair 4 months ago

Batter drippings.. OMG!

I absolutely love fish from Long John Silvers.. I recently learned that you can order "extra crumbs" at no extra charge. This is apparently so popular that it's programmed into the register, so the cashier can punch it in when you order.

Back in my healthier days, I'd order "salad sandwiches" at Burger King.. essentially, just a Whopper with no meat.

Sorry but I don't want the 16 year old kid in the back preparing any "secret" food for me.

While not a big chain, I did used to go into the local Mexican place and order a "License Plate". I even had one of the new waitresses ask me what number it was because she couldn't find it. I'd tell her just to put it on the order and ask the chef.

One.. BIG.. Burrito. Size of a.. well.. I'll let you guess.

The neopolatin shake sounds really good to me. Bet you could do that Wendy's too. That's probably as adventurous as I would get. I don't even do experiments with my own cooking! LOL.

Pizza subs I've heard of, and they're actually really common around here.

They're pretty good with some ranch and veggies and such.

I worked at Pizza Hut and we did that kind of thing all the time. By far, the best was a BLT pizza...Take the thin crust, pile on the bacon. Run it halfway through oven, remove, top with cheese, run it all the way through. Once out of the oven, top with shredded lettuce and fresh chopped tomatoes, drizzle with ranch dressing.

Must have been some real health nuts that came up with that list.

At White Castles, when I worked there, I made myself bacon cheese fries (cant order them cuz of stupid health code). I also made hot chocolate with a touch of chocolate shake. One thing I can still get is my chicken with cheese, bacon, and pickles. MMMMMM.

Go to the chipotle in cupertino, ca, and order a "roark". It will blow your mind. And probably the guy behind the counter, because he won't know what it is.

Starbucks is a secret-menu treasure trove. Their livejournal group is filled with posts of "secret recipes" mainly because baristas get bored and make all kinds of fun stuff up with their partner beverages when business is slow. I'm pretty sure the Cookies-n-Cream Frappuccino, the Orange-cicle Frappuccino, the Iced Blackberry White Mocha, the Dolche White Hot Chocolate and the Blackberry Passion Black Iced Tea from my old store never made it to the official menu, but they were all frequently requested by customers in the know. I'm pretty sure the blackberry syrup is discontinued now, which sucks.

I invented the Get Better Brew [hot mint and ginger green tea with honey] which was constantly requested during the flu and cold season. Our store was in a mall, so all our regular customers were overstressed mall workers with pisspoor immune systems. The mint clears out your sinuses, the ginger settles your tummy, the green tea gives you energy and the warm honey soothes your throat...plus it tastes pretty yummy. It's one bag of Tazo Refresh, two bags of Tazo Green Ginger, one or two packets honey in a Grande cup.

Another store secret was spraying a ton of whipped cream directly into the frapp before mixing it. Made it really fluffy and creamy.

Just ask your local baristas what sort of successful concoctions they've whipped up lately. They'll be more than happy to recommend something.

They are called Crumbs or Cracklins depending on what chain you are at, LJS or Captain D's and they are free at both places. I am sure you can probably get the same thing from places like KFC.

I worked at a pizza hut too and I loved to make either french bread pizza, or calizone. We would also top the breadsticks with everything we could get our hands on. Some turned out well, some not so well, but there were always hungry stoners to eat what didn't turn out well.

The Red Eye is not a flippin' secret. Maybe bloody starsucks doesn't advertise it, but almost every other coffee shop I've been to has one on the menu.

Edit: Of course, the author is admittedly NOT a big coffee drinker.
