Why little girls don't dream of growing up to be Super Heroines Posted: 4 months ago by maven
These are superheroines who have been either depowered, raped, or cut up and stuck in the refrigerator. I know I missed a bunch. Some have been revived, even improved -- although the question remains as to why they were thrown in the wood chipper in the first place.

Be sure to check out the Character List link.

I sure did want to grow up to be a Super Hero, still do.
Can spot one that has been missed, Gertrude from The Runaways, she died with a dagger to the stomach.

But it seems to me alot of male characters die too, not just the girlies.

Sure a lot of male characters die, too, but
And b) I can't quite shake the feeling that male characters tend to die differently than female ones. The male characters seem to die nobly, as heroes, most often, whereas it's not uncommon, as in Katma Tui's case, for a male character to just come home and find her butchered in the kitchen. There are exceptions for both sexes, of course, but shock value seems to be a major motivator in the superchick deaths more often than not.
*edit to add* That said, I love the new incarnation of Wonder Woman...even though her "weakness" (being tied up) originated in the author's love of bondage...

Superman - Killed, Depowered, overcame both.
Batman - Had spinal cord destroyed. overcame it.
Hulk - Depowered, repowered, depowered.. etc.

...

You can make a list just like this one... ok, so male superheros don't get raped and they don't get put into fridges... but alot of bad stuff happens to them as well. It's part of the territory with fighting evil geniuses which will attack you in any method they can to hurt you the worst.

The real problem is that superheroines didn't have the same respect from their authors as males do. When a male dons his spandex and cape, it's drawn heroic. When a female dawns his spandex and cape, it's drawn slutty. There have been comics where a female has had her 'hair pulled' and others where she was worried when she 'broke a nail'. Sterotypes and backwards thinking from the 30's, 40's, 50's.. but as the role of women changed, so did the role of women superheroes.

I don't have enough of a background in comics to know, so perhaps someone can help me out.. but are today's superheroines as.. well.. ditzy as the ones from the 40's and 50's?

This isn't an argument for better treatment of women in comics. It's an argument for worse treatment of men. Let's get those male rapes going.

I believe all adults have an influence on the lives of young people, whether they know it or not. Thus, I'm trying to select my favorite comic book heroine wisely. Which one should I choose?

1. eyes removed, eviscerated, depowered, mind-swapped

or

2.kidnapped and brainwashed into the love-slave of a super-villain?

Decisions, decisions.

Batman actually became a vampire, twice. The first time he got an antidote, the second time he succumbed to the urges, drank the blood of one of the villains, thought himself no better than them because of that and left a note for Alfred to come find him and kill him.

Not in the movies. But I wanna say it was the dark knight comics. I doubt they will put it in a movie.

Their not as ditsy (most of the time) but they are much sluttier.

I have however heard the new Wonder woman comic is being drawn by a female artist, does anyone know which collection it is?

I personally believe that if Juggernaughts costume wasn't such a b***h to get out of, he personally would have raped every last X Man there is.
