This is getting so old.

I almost hope that McCain isn't elected, just so that I don't have to put up with all the Sarah Palin "jokes" for the next four years.

Sheesh.

But it will be worse if Obama wins. There won't be any jokes allowed. Any jokes would be considered insensitive.

Pfft...remember, just a few weeks ago we weren't allowed to make fun of Sarah Palin because it was sexist and insensitive.

We're just playing catch up.

Every election year, candidates are made fun of.

2Many, if you think Obama is safe then tell me why my 11 year old stepson asked if he could be Obama for Halloween tonight. He saw a mask, wants to don a suit and walk around as the candidate for the presidency for the United States.

Personally, I am voting for Obama. Yes, I said it and am very confident about my choice. That being said, I think that it is funny that our rights here can allow us to make fun and light of a situation that is dark and dismal and my 11 year old step son can go from house to house in a Barack Obama mask and collect candy.

IMO, it is exactly the comic relief that this country needs.
I DARE anyone to TRY to put a race card on that one.

I'd probably make some kind of joke about looking for a handout.

How is that mocking Obama? That doesn't sound like mocking to me. Don't kids want to go as someone they look up to... or think others look up to?

Please don't tell me all those kids were mocking Superman, Batman, Princesses, Pirates, etc. NOOOOOOOOOO!

But then again, what do I know? When I was a kid, I picked my Halloween costume... I wanted to be a clock. That's right, a clock. Who the heck knows why... but I've got the pictures to prove it!

I would hate to see what a Republican would put in his goodie bag.

I agree. I find it frustrating that it is okay to make fun of Palin for "being girlie" or her religious stance, but almost nobody makes the same comments about Obama. I'm not sure why sexism is considered so much funnier than racism here.

I disagree with essentially everything Sarah Palin stands for politically, but that doens't mean she doesn't have my respect.

TBH, though, I think every candidate deserves a moderate dose of mocking. Here in Canada we have shows dedicated to mocking political candidates, and it makes things a bit lighter and allows some of us to see different political issues from a different perspective. It's only fair if everyone gets ridiculed/mocked/satired, though, not if one candidate gets excepted from it.

Is this sexism? No, most of these aren't sexist, most are marginally funny. I admit, I giggled at a few, but more because they're absurd than because of any accuracy.

Sexism is considered funny because most men deny that it's a motive, deny that there are any effects from it, and fail to see the harm in it. Racism has been pounded into 'our' heads as wrong, and every white person in America is, to a portion of the population, considered to BE racist for no reason other than being born white. Racism makes headlines, sexism makes snide remarks.

Trust me, no one would be having to suffer for lack of Obama parodies if he said the same sort of things that Palin has said.

Each of them are bashed by their respective "pundit"-nemeses for their political transgressions.

Hell, Giuliani made fun of Obama for being a community organizer...you know, the folks that register voters, organize nerighborhood clean-ups, fight redlining, fight predatory lenders (where was your govt on that one??), call out neglectful absentee landlords, etc, etc.

So it really isn't that Obama hasn't been made the butt of jokes; it is that the jokes have been particularly low-class, uninspired, and (in Giulia911's case) quite distasteful.

The discomfort felt by most conservatives and those on the right comes from an uneasiness with the fact that the republican candidates have been a bit off-kilter. McCain has shown that, w/o Bush as a foil, he has a little less to say. He is a typical firebrand maverick (to whatever degree he is either). He is great at pointing and at biting the pants leg and all, but when put on the spot, he can't quite meet expectations. (it is a shame, i thought he wasn't all bad a few years ago).

Palin was picked for virtually no good reason at all, save for the 'narrative' and the image. Surprise, you pick a bumpkin and she goes on the scene and looks a bit like a bumpkin...Ask Jimmy Carter about his brother. This would not have been an issue if an aware, prepared VP candidate would have been found or chosen.

I will give the republicans credit for not nominating an actor, an elitist cia thug, or a coke-addict. hopefully we have seen the last of that s**t.
