We used to play street hockey with a bigger version of one of those. It was very difficult to find a goalie.

I can't believe that with all the times I got in trouble for setting things on fire that I never thought of doing this. I am so going to try this out as soon as I get home tonight.

Oh, from past experiences with zippo lighters that were recently filled with lighter fluid, do not, I repeat, do not stick these balls in you pocket.

I fail to see how the cotton does not burn and turn to ash. Or the string.

I must ask my firefighter commrades this.

It's because the lighter fluid doesn't burn. It evaporates and the vapors burn. When I was younger we used to squirt some lighter fluid in our hand and light that. It would just warm your hand, but you wouldn't cause any burns.

It's because the fire is using the most readily available fuel - the lighter fluid.

In my more reckless days, we used to cover our hands in lighter fluid and set them on fire. It burns fairly cool till the lighter fluid burns off. Then it gets hot REAL quick.

Ahhh youth. I'm surprised I survived it sometimes.

It's the same principle as the firetorches I used when I did firebreathing, looks a lot cheaper than having to find a specialist shop to buy them.

Next time I get myself some parrafin I'll make a video and post it.

I just want to remind everyone, young and old, that if you play with fire, odon't be surprised if you get burned. Or burn your whole town down.

**I have to go change the wikipedia entry for how 'The Great Chicago Fire' started.

I like it! But I kinda go for the "whoosh" factor of my favorite:

Take a regular Bic lighter. Make a loose fist with your 'off' hand. Insert the top of the lighter into the space between your thumb and curled up fingers. Depress the tab to cause the lighter fluid vapors to go into your hand.

Quickly flick the wheel of the lighter, and pop your hand open. FLARE!

Practice makes perfect!

LOL, I taught this to the 5 year olds I used to baby sit as a bored teen...
