Hidden from History

The movie is long, but worth a view...

Have any of you heard of this?

I think almost every Canadian is aware of the atrocities that occured at residential schools across the country.

I think the way our first nations people were treated then was terrible, but it is important to keep in mind that at the time, Canada was considered to have 'taken care of' their aboriginal inhabitants problem in a much gentler manner than other countries in the Americas.

I don't have the time to watch this whole video right now (I'll get to it later if I have time), but I kind of like this minister fellow. Racism is still alive and kicking here, whether we like it or not.

I've never heard of it down here in Ohio. Sad, but all countries have dark spots in history. Some worse than others.

I mean, the way we did the Natives in America was a shame. And then, in the midst of what Hitler was doing, we started rounding up our Japanese Americans and putting them in little camps.

It's sad.

Yeah, I think we can all agree that people fail.

No, I hadn't before...not of that story anyways.

I do know that we have totally oppressed the native people ever since we got here, but had no idea this stuff went on.

This stuff really pains me, as I love native american cultures and teachings, it's one of my favorite cultures.

As a Canadian, I had previously heard about this. I fully agree that it's despicable, though. Upvote for finding it.

What happened in the residential schools was a terrible thing. I think it's worse that the media now keeps it a bit hushed. The government is starting to give out cheques to anyone who attended residential schools, but I think the average Canadian has no idea about the atrocities committed in these places.

Half the time I burst into tears when I hear some of the stories people have. I think that maybe if it's kept in the minds of all Canadians we all can help as best we can with healing.

It's estimated that some of the schools had a 50% mortality rate.

One more evil that has occured on this planet in the name of religion.
