Biting the Wii bullet

I finally wore my poor husband down this afternoon on the Wii front. Woot! We're camping out tomorrow morning at Best Buy to purchase a system (and probably a few extras). I'm SO excited! I know, I know... it's just a game console, big whoop. But I can't help it!
Sooooo, for those who own Wiis or are planning on purchasing one:
What games do you like so far, and what games are you looking forward to? Do you purchase your games new (retail), new (auction), or used?

Right now I have WiiSports, WiiPlay, and WarioWare: Smooth Moves.

Wii sports comes bundled with the system in most places - a must have. Wii Play comes with a free remote, the only redeeming quality of the game in my opinion. WarioWare is a lot of fun, and makes great use of the remote.

My Wii has been collecting dust since Halo 3 was released, but I'm sure I'll pick it back up when the new Super Smash Bros. is released. Really looking forward to that one.

I get games from a variety of places. Family Video is well-established and usually have excellent prices. I pretty much only buy retail, I'm really wary of auctions and used games.

Oh, I forgot to ask this earlier. I'm planning on getting Wii Play (mainly for the extra Wiimote), but will I really need another Nunchuk? How many games use this? Enough that I'd need two?

The extra nunchuk is useful for some games, but not totally necessary in my experience.

Example: all WiiSports games except boxing can be played with just the remote. If you have your heart set on two-player boxing, I'd pony up for the extra nunchuk. I have quite a limited game library, so I'm not sure about much more than that.

I was in the same boat a few days ago and was going to wait for the new shipment at Best Buy on Sunday. Then I considered what type of gamer I am and the games that the Wii and PS3 offer, and realized that the PS3 suits me way better. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

On that note, I have played the Wii plenty of times and recommend Lego Star Wars. It's a fun little game that has some good clean humor in it.

My little brother LOVES Mario VS Sonic Olympics, or whatever it's called. I personally think it's frustrating as f**k, but he's always been a bit better on the Wii. WiiSports is always great. I did like the Metroid game, but was never in love with it. Mario Party is a great choice, because it's timeless. Even if you get tired of playing it, you'll always be able to pick it back up later. I too am waiting for Super Smash Brothers.

Personally I don't like the Wii I think its unrealistic and that the controllers dont move in the correct way like the PS2 would or indeed the Xbox. For example there is a boxing game called Wii Sports or something like that, and you punch etc, but it does not do what you say and it just annoys me more than anything. However its sold out everywere, so I guess I must be the minority. How come they take so long to make and everywere is sold out? I think thats poor planning from Nintendo.

Davo that's the whole point of the nintendo Wii, it's not supposed to be a simulator it's just a fun party console. There are a few games that are serious and play pretty well but the majority are just for having a laugh with.

Most "gamey" games like Super Mario Galaxy and Spider-Man 3 use the nunchuk.

Yeah, but those games are single player so you really don't need to get another nunchuk since the Wii already comes with one. Rowan, just make sure that you look at the back of any game to see what is required for you to play it.

My step son and his friends say the same thing. (I don't have a wii, but everytime I tell my wife I want one he has to pipe up about how much it sucks). But they're all looking for in depth games and I'm looking to have some fun. I use the example of PacMan with my wife. We love PacMan, the kids hate it; why? because it's a simple game.

I like complex games too, but that's why I have a playstation.

I didn't realize there were problems getting a wii system. They have been in stores regularly around here since they came out. Is this irregularity just because of the holiday season?

Here it's been impossible to find a Wii since it launched, unless you wait in line the morning that the stores get new shipments.

Wii achieved! When we got to BB at 5am, there were already 5 people in line. By the time they handed out tickets at 9:45, there were somewhere between 70 and 80 folks in line. They had a hefty supply, though (71), so most folks came away happy.

Just so everyone knows, I'm normally a die-hard Playstation fan! I still have my PS2 and LOVE it. When the PS3 comes down in cost, I'll absolutely have one. I think Sony still has the best console out there, no contest. I really wanted the Wii because it was so much fun to play at a friend's house about 7 months ago. Also, I think the simple controls and fun "party" atmosphere of the Wii games will appeal to my husband (the gaming noob). We have several friends who will really enjoy coming over and playing party games with us on weeknights, etc.

That's the great thing about the Wii, it's a party console. It's a quick pick up and play thing compared to the 360 and the PS3. Hope you enjoy it. :)

Nintendo obviously did something right. If a person owns two current generation consoles, odds are one of them is a Wii. It worked on me, I picked one up after my 360.

I like the idea of power consoles and party consoles becoming separate. You can see consoles following the 'Elite-Popular-Specialized' model, now moving from Popular to Specialized. I don't doubt we will see more consoles that further break down the gaming population.

Edit: Enjoy playing with your Wii, Rowan!

If your looking for games like pacman and stuff though you can just go on the internet and play it there, same with the wii type games really, there quiet alot like internet games with the only difference being that you have fancy controllers which dont work properly.

I love sony products and I think the PS3 will be amazing, only thing is, its too expensive, and at the moment I personally think that the 360 is better. The reason I say this is because of the online play. If you dont play online then there isnt alot of difference between the consoles, but due to online play I rate the 360 better.
