I need some games

I have built a PC for my BIL out of old spare parts I had and I need some games for him. It's nowhere near top end. It does have a reasonably good processor, 2.4gHz but it has an old geforce 4 graphics card and only 512mb of ram.

I have given him my copies of Age of Empires 3 and UT2004 as well as Freelancer and Diablo 2 but he would like some more.

What would be the best games to run on a machine like that?

Let me know what you were playing 3 years ago if you can remember and I'll head over to Ebay for a look.

Civilization III would be a good game and can be gotten quite cheaply since it is an old game.

See if you can get your hands on NESticle. It has nearly every game ever released for the NES on a disc.

Age of Mythology.
Starcraft.
Warcraft II & III.
Doom III.

Also, you can try here for some great freeware downloads if you don't want to download the NES and SNES emulators.

I second all the games above (except for Civilization III. I can't stand any of the games in that series.). But if you just want some great games that you can play on any computer, look no further than here, as long as you don't mind 8-bit graphics.

Well, depends on the type of games he likes.

I would not recommend shooters and stuff like that.

I like to relax with adventure games (point and click ones)

A few of the best ones - they are quite old:

- Full Throttle by Lucas Arts
- Escape from Monkey Island series
- The Broken Sword series

May prove to be useful on more modern hardware / OSes.

Of course there's always the option of DOSBox or something of that ilk also.
