«Jax, when submitting a link, could there be a box to check warning of pop-ups? Or ask people to warn of them in the description? I've clicked on a few links and was quite annoyed by pop-ups.
Hmm, I don't want to add too much clutter to an already long submission form, and honestly, I don't know if most people will notice that a site has popups, because they have blockers in place. I'd just recommend doing some kind of tagging system in the headline, like [POPS] or [NSFW] or [/56K]
Jax you mentioned to me not to add stuff to just Plime but to categorize. But the categories are just too narrow in some cases. I realize they'll increase in size, number and range but for now, general news belongs in Plime, yes?
I do understand why it needs to be so high a level to add categories at this juncture, so I'm not criticizing, but I do think you're going to get too much stuff lumped under a heading unless you add more categories or allow a lower level (10?) to add some.

General news belongs in the best possible category. If there's a category we really need, let me know.
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.
«General news belongs in the best possible category. If there's a category we really need, let me know.
Part of the problem is when you find a story that can't be easily categorized. The Boxing Day Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina were much more than mere science stories. Where would you put Steve Irwin's death? Television?
Maybe a "Top News" category for the really hard to categorize stories like these.
"Health," too, please. That would cover everything from medical advances to bird flu and SARS, and might take some of the pressure off the "Science" category.
"Human interest?"
You could save some screen space by putting Business and Bargains under "Money." (War, too, if you were feeling sassy. ;) )
« Galoot should be able to make those now I think.
Not until Mr. Boss says to go for it. Jax is trying to avoid the clutter of endless categories that choked up the tree in the beta days.
Anyway, I think we should start a Category Requests thread rather than clutter up this fine FAQ thread. (Hey, I just did!) And yes, I'm just as guilty of derailing this one as everyone else. :)
I just asked this question 5 minutes ago in another forum...whoops.
I was just checking a Live Help question over at Worth, and someone was there asking for a Plime Admin?! I didn't answer the live help because I couldn't be of any help.
Do we all just get to bug Galoot now?! ;-)
Edited to add: I'm sure this isn't top priority on your Honey Do list, but, will we be getting smileys?

Thats the beauty of this place. Give whatever help you can, even if that means finding somebody who knows more. Its acts like helping that will make a diff to how you are seen in this site at the end of the day. Its practically impossible for an idiot to get anywhere on this site cos its us who votes. Brilliant.
Once again Jax. Thanx.
PS - Who are you Galoot? Its quite obvious to me that a lot of people like you from Worth and youre someway involved in the site but I havnt got a clue who you are or why you have a rank of 26. May I ask for a proper introduction from the guy with a rank three times that of Jax's. Im sure people are wondering.
PPS - I mean the above question in all good nature. :)

You're right about that. I should have added that in my above comment. I have no clue why Galoot has such powers.
BACK TO FAQ'S: MS, maybe you can help me (since you've answered all my other questions :-))...
How do I add pictures from an outside source? I always use images from the library, but I notice a lot of times people will change them for me to something that better fits the article.

either google image search the image, copy and paste the IMAGE ONLY URL and paste it into the "add your own picture" tab. if the image is from an article, (theres probably a better way of doing this) right click and save the picture as____(whatever you want. then under add ur own picture, upload it straight from there.

I just made a new 'plime images' folder. I find the image I want for the article before submitting, store in my folder, then browse to it when submitting the article.

For anyone not familiar with the shortcuts, here's the basic way to uplaod pictures.
Like Milkshake, I find my picture before I start submitting. I image search on google, and save to my hard drive ("my pictures" in my case). Under the thumbnail, click "add an image" Click "choose an image file from your computer" click "browse" click on the picture you want and click open at the bottom of the window. Click "upload" and then click submit.
