So, I've been feeling pretty confident about the diet and my appearance this week. I've lost about 7 pounds, I've been eating very well and when I suck in my stomach, it's almost flat.

And then, last night at the bar, some guy, in all sincerity, patted me on the belly and asked how far along I was. Which, of course, led to self-hatred and heavy drinking. And a beast of a hangover the next morning.

I know quite a few of us had weight loss New Years Resolutions [except that b*****d Jerry ;)] and I figured I'd create a thread where we can keep progress of our efforts, share little things that have helped, and of course, offer moral support when some jackass comments on how we're "glowing".

First off, I'd like to point out that the random guy in question is an idiot. While I have no idea what you look like, ms. couch, I think you might agree that approaching a woman at a bar where she may even be drinking and then asking her how far along she is, it's a pretty dumb thing to say.

I like this idea for a thread, though. I've put on a few extra pounds since becoming a desk jockey all fall, and I don't like it at all!

I don't think I'd be in any decent shape at all right now if it weren't for the faithful 'heartbeat at my feet' - my dog. He's always up for a run, and will come up to me with his leash in his mouth for a run if we hadn't been out yet that day. I guess I like being guilted by him.

Here's my belly:

My doctor told me to slow down on the weight gain. I cried for a whole day.

But on to weight loss tips. My number one rule is not to deny yourself. If you crave chocolate, have one, but then fill up on fruit. Peppermint gum is good when you start getting the munchies. It gives your mouth something to do and peppermint can be an appetite suppressant. Replace stress-eating with stress-exercising, it's good for you.

But most important, don't listen to drunks in the bar, they're idiots.

well now my dear, dont be disheartened by some f-tards(thanks Nunkii) drunkin comment. I think i might have some knowledge in this. before the navy I was 285lbs, out of shape, and sad really. i went to the recruiter and he laughed at me telling me i'd never get down to weight. I had to get down to about 205lbs. well for 7months I ate, slept, crapped nothing but workouts. I ate small portions and nothing but good stuff(and it sucked) I tried Adkins diet, fruit smoothy diet, salads only diet. but i think the biggest contributor to my wieght loss was hard work. running, jummping rope does wonders, all cardio. I went back to the recuiter at 202lbs 7 months later. and when i got out of boot I was 191. 10 months and I lost an entire person. I remember looking in the mirror and not noticing a difference, but looking back at older pictures, I was a sexy beast! Just keep working on it, and do not, by anymeans, ever doubt yourself or get down on yourself. a positive attitude is your best ally.

Thank you guys! I appreciate the support.

SEG, if I can find my camera I will join you in the belly baring. I think it'd be a good idea to post before and after photos of our progress. Your arms look fab, though! Looks like you just put on a little belly weight, which is cake to get rid of in comparison to all over bulk, which I'm dealing with.

I'm eating a ton of spinach...I actually bought the book How To Eat Like A Hot Chick and while their stupid lingo and such makes me want to choke them, the book actually has some pretty good advice.

I can really get into eating healthy; I like the taste of veggies and lean protein much more than fast food garbage. My issue right now is booze; I'm a big fan of stout beers and whiskey.

That and exercise. I am not a mover.

I know what I need to do. I have done it. I lost 50 pounds 17 years ago and I kept it off for 12 years. Then I slowly put it back on. I was super model thin back then. I do not want or need to be that thin again. I would like to lose at least 25 maybe 30 this time. I can keep my curves that way. I eat way too much junkie stuff. I drink chocolate milk right along with my 7 y/o daughter. I sit most of the time. It's time to get motivated! Hmmm...I will have to take a pic to upload. I am not hardly in any pictures.

As for Ms.Couch, yes, that guy was an IDIOT! Big time! I am quite certain he is alone a lot. I would love to participate in this.

Sparkly your belly is adorable. I can tell that is all baby. I always got the slow down thing too. While you don't want to gain 50 and 60 pounds by delivery, you can be okay with 25-30. I gained 30 every time and lost 30 every time.

Okay...I am done taking up everyone's time. Next please.

find someone to lose weight with...however you decide.

All last year, I ran and exercised alone. I did ok - losing about 50 pounds...but then I put some of it back on.

Now, I'm running with a group (I'm running with the Half Marathon Class at RunOn) and even though I've only been doing it for less than 2 weeks, I love it soooo much better than running alone.

My belly is baby-induced, so I can't get rid of it just yet. After I give birth, I need some weight loss support though.

That, and the fact that Twister is copyrighted. Also - uniformly ignored? Watch the word choice there, Pock.

Good point - I'll go with "why is it that my requests are treated with such naked contempt?".

D'oh. I forgot you were preggo. In that case it's cute and babyful [as opposed to my little bundle of joy that is primarily composed of gas station food and lager]. And hell, being pregnant is the only time in a woman's life where she's pretty much expected to have a belly. I say enjoy the hell out of it. With donuts.

I was just thinking about a thread like this. Count me in on the healthy new Plime! I will admit that I'm not ready to share a belly pic...but I love the idea of getting even more support from a great group!

Dammit. There'll be none of that or you'll make me crave them too. :)

My boyfriend is horrified by the state of my fridge. It's full of "rabbit food". He too is on a diet, one that includes only two fast food meals as opposed to his usual three. A-hole has lost ten pounds already, as he so cheerfully informed me whilst downing an entire bag of cheese popcorn.

This is my new favorite thing. Put some grilled chicken strips [I cheated and bought Tysons], a bunch of baby spinach, some alfalfa sprouts [just a little cause they taste faintly of dirt] and a sprinkling of feta cheese on a whole wheat tortilla and put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds or so to melt the cheese. Sprinkle some basalmic vinegar and pepper, add a generous helping of spicy mustard and wrap that baby up. Consume joyously while your veggie-phobic BF wrinkles his nose and buries his face in a tray of Long John Silvers. Be sure to resist the urge to gnaw off his hand when he offers you a bite of his fish plank.

Also nummy: melt some I Can't Believe Its Not Butter in a skillet and add some minced garlic. Let that sizzle for a bit and then add a s**t-ton of baby spinach [it shrinks so don't be frugal] and some grilled chicken strips. Stir it for a few and then add some feta cheese. Once it melts and the chicken is nice and brown, take it off the skillet and sprinkle it with pepper and some grated parmesan. Ignore BF when he tells you it looks like you fished your dinner out of the garbage disposal. Smack him when he taunts you with a Reeses Cup.

I am living with my parents and they never buy fresh fruits/veggies (only canned) so I have a hard time getting all my vegetables since canned veggies make me wanna puke. So I am trying to eat less and healthier (and that is a bit of a challenge) and get more exercise.
I have found fitday.com is an incredably useful website for those trying to get in shape.

My plan is to stay under 1500cals and workout
-40min of hoola hooping
-1hr of cardio (light-medium)
-30min of weight lifting.

I am 5'3 and 137lbs.. my goal is to get to 120lbs

Hope everyone does well.
