I dreamt last night that I was riding my bicycle in an old part of town (beautiful buildings, great architecture) and stopped in a little cafe for a bite to eat and a cup of coffee. The French owner was there, and waited on me personally. She brought me my sandwich and coffee which were delicious, then brought me the bill. I was surprised at how expensive it was but reached into my little change purse and pulled out what I thought was a $20. She brought me my change; apparently I'd given her a $2000 bill. Along with dollars of all denominations, there were also francs, coupons, and currency from other countries. I went up to the cash register about it but someone else was there. They directed me to the back of the store, where the bartender plied me with fancy chocolates and raspberry liqueur while he worked it out. It was a delectable dream....

Another Plimate dream but it was Davbob for some reason.

I was in my room, but we had just moved in. There was nothing in my room but me.
All of a sudden a huge spider comes out of nowhere, chasing me.
I scream for my mom and she brings a can of raid, but it's some kind of weird can. It's like my mouth rinse, but instead of squeezing to make it flow into the cap up top, you twist it and it gets soaked up by copper wires. Then instead of lugging the entire can around, you just bring a top around and spray however much you soaked up. It was pretty neat.
Any way, I get back in my room and another spider, but faster, dashes towards me.
Instead of spraying the spider like a normal human being, I throw the Raid cap at it and scream like a little girl. If this were real life, my shorts would have been wet by now.
Well, as I was screaming, I was steadily trying to climb up...something.
When I turned my head to see what I was climbing on I realized I was eye level with Dav.
He gave me a huge grin and squashed the spider. I kept making weird noises like "myew" and "meep" as he kept crunching random spiders, all the while me clutching onto him for dear life.
As he was leaving, my mother tipped him and smacked his bum. He jumped and smiled like a child.
After he left, I turned on the TV in the den and saw a commercial for Davbob, saying he was a professional spider killer.
I remember my mom swooning over him for a while after that, and then I woke up.

I told Xia this but thought I would share.

My youngest had a dream of my grandmother, younger, with a man she never saw, they were in white and she thought they looked like they were going to be married.

My aunt (her daughter) has had dreams of her too, since her passing, I did not get many details, but said she looked at peace.

I wanted to have that connection, too. I knew I had it when she was physically dying, the pain in my stomach was unbearable.

I finally had that dream.

She was still old, but not as old. She was laying on the grass at my parents house where she used to live, near all the flowers she tended to.

Stitch was there and ran over licking her face and she was laughing and told she would need some help getting back up.

I said something sarcastic, like "Ya think?" because she was old and couldn't move too fast anymore.

I imagine her up there getting licked to death by all the dogs she had in her life in a lush bed of grass right now.

I needed that dream.

Last night, I dreamed about Zombies. I was constantly running from zombies, while trying to keep my 2yo daughter from getting taken by them (where my other 3 kids were, i have no clue..lol). Near the end of the dream, we pretty much had all them wiped out, waiting for military backup...and we learned that a scientist that was in our group was the original creator of them. He created them for the gov't.

Yeah, I watch too many zombie movies.

I have crazy dreams like this all the time.

Does that mean I'm pregnant? And have been all my life? That poor kid.

Anyway, yeah, I've had more than my fair share of weird dreams. Since zombies were mentioned, I'll share the dream I typed up a couple months ago:

It started with me walking around a city I didn't recognize with a group of people I also didn't recognize. While in the dream this seemed perfectly normal, it was afterwards that I realized that I had no clue where I was or who I was with. So, the group and I were walking down the middle of the street and happened upon a kid (mid-teens maybe) with greenish skin, a limp and blood-covered clothes. Ok, zombie dream, nothing too freaky yet for me.

So out of nowhere I pull out a gun, aim at the zombie, and pull the trigger. The gun goes 'bang' but no bullet goes hurtling into the zombie. I looked at the gun, wondered what was wrong with it and then noticed that even though the zombie wasn't hit by anything, it had stopped moving and was just standing there... So we continued on. About a block later, we see another zombie and the situation repeats; gun, bang, zombie stops moving, no bullet.

So we start walking down the road again. About a block later, one of the people in the group turns into a zombie. No reason apparent, just *poof* zombie. So I "shoot" that zombie too and then walk off from the group.

Fade to black. I thought, ok, weird little dream.

Then I find myself climbing out of the city with my Dad, sister, step-sister and step-brother. Yes, climbing out of the city. For some reason the city was actually built inside a volcano's opening. I don't know if it was active or dormant or what, but that's where the city was built. So, we get over the last ledge and are standing on the lip of the volcano, looking down on one side to a grimy city and down the other at a mountainside that was rather cliff-like with a wide expanse of desert beyond it.

"So how do we get down from here?" I asked.

My sister responded with "Just jump" and jumped off the side of the volcano towards the desert.

Watching, I thought she was gonna break every bone in her body when she hit the bottom, and it kinda looked like she did; then she got back to her feet and said, "Come on down, it's fine."

So we all followed her lead and jumped off the cliff. After this, my Dad was no longer with us. We didn't seem to notice.

After two days of walking around in the desert (thankfully time goes faster in dreams), we found a house in the middle of nowhere. There were no signs of anyone living there currently. We knocked and then went in to investigate. The house was dusty and obviously abandoned in a hurry.

We went down to the basement of the house and found that it closely resembled the basement of my grammy's old house with a few things moved around. There was a sink, a refrigerator and a couple of sofas. We decided to "camp" here and started looking for anything to eat or drink. Looking through the refrigerator, we found a Brita water jug full of water and a whole lot of spoiled food, included some really vivid moldy cheese that was more disturbing looking than the zombies encountered in the city (the detail of the bad food was really quite amazing). We realized the power was out at that point. We drank the water from the Brita jug and I went to the sink and filled up the reservoir.

"Well, either the water is still on or there's some water left in the pipes. It might be enough for a day or so if the latter is the case so we'll have to be conservative with it," I said.

We went to sleep and things fast-forwarded a few days. We heard something moving around on the first floor above us. I went up to check it out, taking my "trusty" gun with me.

Randy Quaid, or someone who looked remarkably similar to him, was walking around checking out the house.

"Hey, how you doin? You live here, man?" he asked

"Sort of, we found the place a few days ago. Any idea what's going on?"

"Nah, man, been walking around looking for shelter for the last week."

"Alright, well, you can have the upstairs, we're camping out in the basement, just respect us and we'll respect you."

"Ok, man, sounds good."

Then I went back downstairs and told the others what the noise was and such.

A few minutes later, "Randy" knocked on the basement door and came down the stairs.

"Hey man, you got any food down here?"

"Just some rotten cheese, you want it?" I asked.

"Nah man, was just checking cuz we found something to eat."

Then a rather freakish looking fat kid came walking down the stairs behind him holding a baby.

"Uh... Where's the food?" I asked.

"Yer lookin at it, man. We jus din't wanna eat a baby if you guys had some real food, ya know."

"Dude, that's f**king sick, how are you gonna eat a baby? That's just wrong, I don't care how bad it is out there, there's gotta be something to eat besides a f**king baby."

"Well man, you go out and look and if you find something let me know. We'll just hold off on naming this thing in case we gotta eat it."

"Oh god, that's f**king crazy, seriously, what the f**k?" then I broke out laughing hysterically and said "s**t, sorry, I just couldn't stay in character, let's do that again."

And then I woke up.

lol..yeah, i'm pregnant. I wish that the cause of my wild/crazy dreams though. I've had dreams like this since I was a wee one. I'm used to them...I wake up and just kinda laugh. I try to memorize the really good ones to share with my husband. It helps to maintain his thought that I'm a loon..lol.

The only dreams that are nightmares/scary to me are the ones that involve snakes and spiders...eveyrthing else, ends up being comical. Oh...since becoming a mother though, I have a TON of dreams of my kids dying. Either from being shot to death (x-h was military, dream military rifles would kill my kids), or from horrible weather. Those are complete nightmares for me.

That last was a bit long, eh? Next dream is shorter, and mildly disturbing.

Dream started at my dad's house. I was doing something on my laptop and my dad presented me with the keys to my grammy's old ford galaxy (think it's a 78, I forget now). I was all happy that he was giving me the car and I went out to the driveway, carrying my laptop with me. I opened up the driver-side door and tossed my laptop into the passenger seat. When I started to sit down into the driver's seat, I realized that the car was already running somehow and was in drive. It didn't occur to me to hit the brakes so I hastily finished getting in and shut the door. The car pulled out onto the road and I started driving down the highway (my dad lives right on the highway).

I drove for hours and hours and eventually started getting bored and tired. In the dream, I knew there was somewhere that I wanted to get to but I don't know where that was now. So I continued driving, but I started to nod off. My head kept dipping down and jerking back up as I caught myself. Eventually, I gave in and passed out...

I heard the scrape of car hitting side-rail and felt the car change direction. Then the car slammed into something in front of me. This jolted me awake (in my dream) and my first thought was "Oh s**t, I'm in trouble, I better txt my mom and let her know what happened." Immediately upon having that thought, I felt my car jerk again as another car slammed into my trunk. My car compacted and caught me in the bend, squishing me. Another car slammed into the pile-up and the wreckage squeezed me more. I could feel the pressure from the crashes and the blood dripping off me. I felt my legs and hands become cold. It spread into the rest of my body and I felt my consciousness slip out of my body and rise up. I looked down on the accident and saw my broken body among the wreckage. My mind was racing, trying to figure out what the hell happened. Then I realized I was dreaming. But when I realized I was dreaming, it didn't help immediately. It put me back in my body and I could feel the coldness and pain again. I struggled for a minute convincing myself that I wasn't dead and then woke up still feeling cold and sore.

I remember when this thread was talking about being able to control your dreams awhile back and I made a comment saying that I was able to do it a few times in my life but only for a small amount of time. Since then I have been doing some research about how to properly go about doing it and practicing on my own to no avail, until about a week ago. Within the past ten days I have realized in my dream that I was asleep 3 times, and this last time I did it for at least an hour. I didn't have any superpowers and couldn't transport or whatever people say that happens, but i was aware that I was dreaming and was stuck in a house for the whole ordeal but it was just, amazing.

So far the answer to Q2 is mostly "no", which means that it is at the fringes of what is regarded as science and strays frequently into the land of hokum and charlatanry, so for the most part these answers are subjective.

It's not "normal" in that for most people it doesn't happen without effort and practice. On the other hand, it's not abnormal in that really all that is involved is a few habitual adjustments, nothing chemical or physical.

As for danger, then beyond the usual you'd expect for anything involving your subconscious then probably not - let's say no more dangerous that sitting in the bath contemplating your navel.

In terms of benefits, then nothing tangible. I have heard people say that they have been able to access memories that they wouldn't normally be able to in dreams.

If you are suffering from troubled dreams then having control may be of some benefit to you - although if this is the case (in general, not you specifically MBK), I'd think that controlling how you deal with the cause of the disturbance would be more profitable than metaphorically putting your hands over your ears and singing la-la-la until the bad parts of your mind went away.

In my "managed" dreams it is similar for me too. No superpowers, just ordinary, maybe a bit weird dreams. Still they provide answers for questions. Not spelled out answers, more like general clues, but when I wake up I know it was the answer, and then I have to figure out what did it mean, and the answers comes very quickly.
I tried to explain it to others, but they usually do not understand why a dream like that answers a question, and why do I think it means what I think.
The point is that only you can explain your dreams, because others have no clue about your internal symbols. So if you feel like a dream was an answer to a question, just interpret it the way you think it fits. Even if you can not explain it, chances are you got the answer right.
Now don't get me wrong, when I say right it means right from your point of view, not necessarily right from an outside view. A course of action might be what solves your problems, but it might be very troubling for others.
Mostly these dreams do not give very straightforward, practical answers. I had one exceptional dream when I dreamed up how to find and prove what is the extreme value of the sum of the sinuses of the angles of a triangle. But this was an exception. Mostly the answer comes in far more obscure terms.
