Hello Plimates! I couldnt find any info in our wonderful stock of FAQ about Tagging, so I thought I would add a post about it, seeing how proper tagging can help in preventing numerous dupes.
Tagging an article is one of the most important part of the posting process, an improper tag can result in the article being lost in the search engine, and then may lead to dupes later on.
Tagging should include (If Applicable):
The place the event or story occurred in
Names of the main people of the story
Key points from the Head Line you wrote
Any thing to boost the search result of the article
Avoid generic terms like weird, funny, humor/humour etc. as these really don't help anyone track things down.
-Keep in mind that the search engine only reads 4 letter words or more, and that the more descriptive you are, the better.
While going through Plime and you find a link that is not properly tagged, feel free to add more, take it upon yourself. You never know if this will end up helping you, or others, down the line.
«suckersklub : I would have loved this, had you put it in the FAQ category. Now it's too late, for some reason the category cannot be changed anymore.
I totally did put in the FAQ catagory, it was the first thing I did.
Well I plan to post it as a Link so that every user can see it, and hopefully it will get upvoted to the front page, Ill log it as a FAQ so people can get to it directly from the page.... Plime is full of errors today, at least I keep getting them....
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.
«tundramonkey : .... isn't this in the FAQ category?
I searched through the long list of things DEP made, and I even did the inurl:plime.com search for Tags, and Help for Tags. Oh well. I just wanted to get that out there. haha
«tundramonkey : .... isn't this in the FAQ category?
For me, it appears in Plime.com.
I usually choose the category last, right before submitting, because it regularly "gets lost" somewhere during the process of opening a thread. Strange.

Maybe once this gets good and burried I will repost it in the FAQ section. Like four weeks or so down the line. When its forgotten about, haha.
How is the Tag search built and sorted anyway? A lot of time I enter a search and get tons of results but it's not sorted in any useful way to me.
Example: Search for "Presidential Race Results" and the first article you get is a year old article titled "2007 Round-The-World Flight Simulator Race" ...one of the tags is "around the world race"
Most times I post and search by tags and get either NO results or WAY too many. It'd be nice if it was sorted by post date since most times I'm looking to see if somebody else beat me too it recently.

Yeah, that would be nice. Right now Jax and the other developers have their plates full. I'm sure that will be a feature in the future (along with the ability to search the forums).

I's also like to add that it is everyones responsibility to add appropriate tags to any post that you find lacking.
Make a habit out of checking the tags before you comment or upvote/downvote; and hit the edit button to add anything you feel would be helpful in searching it out in the future.
