Border's got me thinking. =)

I'll start it off.

My favorite book that's had the biggest impression on me is either, "Space Troopers", by Heinlein.

Or, "On a Pale Horse: The Incarnations of Immortality" by Peirs Anthony.

The Beach, by Alex Garland is hands down the greatest book I have ever read.

There are many other books I am fond of, but none compare to The Beach. Sadly, none of Garlands other novels compare to The Beach either.

Card's Enders Game was a great read, and George R R Martin has a great series going in his "song of ice and fire" books. I also really enjoy Niel Gaiman; specifically American Gods, Stardust, and Coraline.

I love that book. It's what got me interested in Sci-fi.

I'd say it's about the best thing you'll ever read.

It's a bit to explain, check it out here; you can even read the first few pages to get a feel for the style.

"Never Let Me Go" By Kazuo Ishiguro

He is also the greatest living author, in my opinion.

Blankspace73, you and I must be connected somehow. I have read and re-read the Incantations of Immortality series dozens of times. I always find something new. I'm a huge Piers Anthony fan (even though his latest Xanth books suck).

Ender's Game was one of those books that surprised me. Really. I had no idea that major plot twist was coming.

Stephen King's The Stand is my all-time favorite book. It's the first book I picked up to read for fun.

I knew Plimates were intelligent people. This thread just proves it!

I read xanth a long time ago, but I got the impression they couldn't all be written by him when they started sucking.

Peirs Anthony is great, but like Stephen King, when he writes bad, he's really bad. =)

Never read The Stand, I want to. I've seen the series.

Read many of his other books including 5 1/2 of the 7 Dark Tower series.

The plot twist in EG was amazing. =)
I never saw it coming. except now when im reading it for the umpteenth time. lol

He started writing some different genres, which weren't all that great, so I assumed he just rushed out Xanth books because he knew they'd make money.

I've read a couple of Piers other than Incarnations, but not Xanth.

Something I should see/read?

I never got past the 4th Dark Tower book. The only thing that kept me remotely interested was the Flagg character who shows up in other King books. If you do attempt The Stand, I suggest you get the newer edition where he put back about 500 pages (yes, it's about 1400 pages long). Another King book that I recommend is Eyes of the Dragon. He wrote it for his daughters when they were too little to read his scary stuff.

EDIT: Just saw your next post. I recommend Anthony's Bio of a Space Tyrant series. He also wrote a book called Realty Check that's more for teens.

Story-wise, The Dragonlance Series (Chronicles and Legends) is king in my book.

I also like The God Delusion and god Is Not Great. (No surprise there, huh?)

Scientifically, The Selfish Gene is marvelous. I'm reading through The Ancestor's Tale at the moment. Richard Dawkins is amazing.

Dawkins IS amazing. He can be a little inflammatory though, but such is the price of genius =p

I did that book for a 5th grade book report. lol

Wizard and Glass is boring. He explains a lot about Roland's past, but it's not need to know.
I skipped over until it was back to the main storyline.

I started reading Wolves of the Calla, picked up something else, and now I can't get back into it. >_<

Damn right it is... I've been coming back to that boo off and on for the last year. It's such a drag because the series started off so well. Does it pick back up afterwards?

Dawkins is fun! Stephen Jay Gould stuff is also good reading.

I quit reading Xanth stuff when the plots starting repeating with different puns and names. Firefly is a good work, as well as the Key series, the Adept series, and the Geodyssey series.

Hmmm...Peter Hamilton's Reality Disfunction is good...very frustrating when they were still coming out!
