I am a spiritual logistic. I believe in higher powers, but am also reasonably minded enough to know how certain things are done and are not mystic at all.

I don't know what I believe in.. there was a point in time where I thought I was the anti-christ or just evil b/c a light bulb exploded when I walked into a church for a funeral and everyone jsut stared at me.. it was creepy, I left. I constantly have the same recurring dream and i've never dreamt in color, only in black and white. cept this one time I passed out after taking shroomz and saw tele-tubbies surfing. So I basically don't believe in God persay, but I believe in some form of evil. But I also believe in equal opposites so there must be some type of good as well.. although that hasnt' been proven yet. So yea.. If evil were a religion I'd pick it.

« 2manyusernames : Life didn't start as a self-catalyzing chemical reaction.

Life - even possibly cyanobacteria, might very well have resulted from "self-catalyzing chemical reactions", but those reactions themselves were not life.
I don't exactly agree with the current definition of life. In my opinion, anything that replicates with a possible difference in later generations is life.

What do I believe? That is a very good question that I wish I had the answer to. I do believe that there is some form of god, I am not sure if I really believe in any form of organized religion... But I sure there is something up there guiding us.

things I think I know about god:

(I use he because she sounds weird after growing up in a Christian home)

-God has no gender
-He doesn't answer prayers, he only listens
-He has mastered the butterfly affect

i don't really believe in a higher being. i'm agnostic. i don't really rule it out. i just don't think it's important. i think the only thing we can truly know is that other people exist. therefore, i think we should treat other people with respect. we know we exist, so we should respect ourselves. i'm not a fan of religion because i think people should think for themselves, and i believe people are inherently good.

I just think organized religion should get a good looking at. Its turning more people away then helping.

Normally I avoid things like this on the internets because they turn into hate-fests. I have something that I find interesting to contribute today, though, after a hearty discussion over Sunday dinner with my cousins.

I was raised Catholic, but I really don't believe any of it. I consider myself fairly agnostic, though if I had to pick a faith it would be buddhism.

Anyways, I don't think Jesus was some miracle man who was all holy and the rest, but I do think this person existed. I wouldn't be surprised if all of the stories about him aren't entirely true, since writers like to embellish things a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a scoundrel who was quite a bit off his rocker but somehow managed to convince people that he was magical.

To get to my interesting story, though, I do recall in the gospels, throughout the stories about Jesus' crucificition, that the men and women along the streets were giving Jesus wine and vinegar instead of water when he was thirsty while dragging the cross.

The interesting thing, in my opinion, is that opiates from poppies, which were well known and used by that point in history, will not mix in water but will in wine and vinegar. So essentially, in my opinion, Jesus was being given some extreme drugs by people who wanted to ease his pain.

So instead of dying, he passed out and almost OD'd. Since it was approx. 2Ka ago, it's quite possible they just assumed he was dead and put him into a tomb.

Then, a few days later, he woke up with a killer headache and was all 'wtf??' and walked out and everyone was freaking out....

Anyway, to me this makes more sense than the stories that I was told to believe when I was a kid, though it isn't nearly as cool as Jesus as a zombie.

I would fall under the "Christian" category. I don't believe that Christianity should be a religion as much as a two way relationship with God. I believe that the Bible is the word of God. I also believe that:

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:8-10

I cant save my self from sin and neither can any one else. This is one of the reason that I try to treat every equal and not be hypocritical about pointing others problems when I have plenty of my own.

Living in rural parts Kenya for most of my childhood and the things that I have witnessed, have made it very difficult for me not believe that a supernatural force has been active in my life in some shape or form.

Though if you recall from the scriptures, Jesus refused the offer of wine and vinegar. So, there was no hungover Jesus, according to scripture.

Though he did seem like a partier (read "water to wine" miracle).

I did my best to forget/unmemorize every part of the bible once I graduated from that Catholic highschool I attended. After 13 years of being assigned verses to memorize in detention, I wanted nothing to do with it!

I certainly don't take that old book as truth, but if I had to pick some explaination to that Jesus story, that would be it. That or zombies, really.

And yes, he must have been a party animal. He hung out with prostitutes... I always wondered if he was a pimp.

Actually, my memory of that old book works better than I thought.

Everyone has something different to say about the whole deal (IMO if Matthew, Mark, Luke & John wanted people to take them seriously, they should at least get their stories straight!!).

According to John 19: 28-30 "28Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."

So he did drink it, and according to my hypothesis he got the drugs!

Luke didn't note any beverages consumed, though Matthew and Mark, as usual have different accounts of what happened.

I believe what cheeselog wrote. Read that. I also believe that Jesus was pretty amazing. Sure there were those miracles, but I'm not really concerned about that. What is really fascinating is how Christ, during his time on earth set an example for how humans should interact. You see, Jesus ate with undesirable people, told off the pharisees and self-righteous, and generally show modeled for us God's concern for us. God does not want to damn, but he wants us to flourish and have right relationships. Respect, is a universal religious theme, something that the internets could use.

1) Do I know 100% for sure what happens to me when I die?

2) Where did I get my answer from?

If you're not 100% sure or you want to talk about this further, PM me.

I believe in very little. I know the sun will come up tomorrow because it always has before. I know that if I drop my toast in the morning it will land.

I think too much time is spent on believing and faith in general but if it tickles your pickle then go for it.

« Marz : Born in Ireland, so obviously raised a catholic. :)
But my parents let me make my own decisions once I turned 18. I already knew then religion wasn't for me. I believe in a higher power, but also believe in a lot of Buddhist principles, such as achieving enlightenment. I'm not atheist or agnostic, I think I am, as Psycmoe said, spiritual. Unlike ReBoot, above, events in my life have encouraged my move to be spiritual rather than religious.
Now,that's your answer right there in your last sentence.Spiritual rather than religious.Religion isn't a belief,it's a practice.Who you believe in and who you trust in the spiritual life is your faith.Be it Christ,Buddha,or whoever. There are lots of religions out there, but there is only ONE GOD.He is.He is the air we breathe,he is the gravity that holds us to the earth.Don't anybody get mad at me for voicing my opinion please. That's just what it is.
