I read Wicked and loved it. I've heard the soundtrack, and love it too, so while I can't speak to actually seeing the play, I don't think there's a conflict with the soundtrack and the book.
I'm currently catching up on the Pern series--it's ok, fluff reading.
I have a bunch of other stuff sitting on the shelf, too. I'll ponder more.

The play begins with Elphaba and Glinda meeting at Schiz. Nesarose is also there from day one.
Since armless singers are at a premium these days Nesarose spends her time in a wheelchair rather than being devoid of arms.
In the book I do not recall Glinda and Fiero being much of an item. Nor was he the "Rico Suave" type when he first arrived at Schiz.
If you go to the play expecting to see the book you will be disapointed. If you go to the play expecting to see a performance based on the book you will have a good time. The music is top-notch and the set at the Gershwin is awesome. Even the set for the travelling production is very good.

In the process of re-reading DIASPORA, by Greg Egan.. one of the best books of my life.. REALLY HARD-Science fiction not for the blase' reader.. but infinitely rewarding (pun intended.)
«larknet : I am not much of a reader. The book I am currently reading are the teaching manuals for MCSA. They aren't the most riveting but are very informative.
I have three technical manuals I'm reading as well...Cold Fusion, .ASP, and DNN. Not really fun reading...
I have two books that I swear to you if you read them you will be sending me messages telling me how amazing they are:
100 years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius - Dave Eggers
I am practically BEGGING you guys to read these two books, they are THAT amazing. If you don't like them I swear I will send you a check for the cost of the books, that is how much I love them.
ALSO, if you want a great, fun read (especially if you dug hair metal back in the day) pick up:
Fargo Rock City - Chuck Klosterman (I noticed someone else tossed Chuck in the mix, KUDOS!)
«arsphidius : I'm coming a little late to this party, but I am reading a great book called The curious incident of the dog in the night-time, by Mark Haddon.
I also highly recommend these books by Mark Dunn: Ella Minnow Pea Ibid Welcome to Higby
I second Ella Minnow Pea! What a fantastic literary challenge!

I LOVE The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. It's a fantastic read.
Currently I'm reading "Cod" by Mark Kurlansky. It's a book about the history of cod fishing and it's impact on cultures. We have alot to thank the cod for.
Pushed: The painful truth about childbirth and modern maternity care by Jennifer Block -Absolutely excellent
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin -This is a great starter book for anyone who is new to childbirth. Like a Pregnancy 101 book :)
Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method by um.. M? Mongan
Emergency Childbirth: A Manual by Gregory J White -Pretty good. Just ignore it when he says that the best position for birth is flat on the back. That part is outdated, but the rest of it is still good
Heart & Hands: A midwife's guide to pregnancy and childbirth -Pretty good midwife textbook
The Power of Pleasurable Childbirth by Something Annis Something? -I really like the first 1/3 of the book but didn't concentrate on the rest of it very well

i recently read "the sandman - endless nights" by neil gaiman. i got it for christmas. it was nice...it was like running into some old friends i hadn't seen in years.
In nonfiction I'm halfway through Grand Theft Childhood by Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl Olson. So far it is a very interesting read. It's amazing how many unverified statistics are thrown around about violence in video games and its affect on people.
In fiction I just finished reading The Prestige by Christopher Priest. I can honestly say I wasn't impressed. I love, love, love the movie, but the book was very anticlimactic in a lot of ways.
Before that it was three books from the Thursday Next series- The Eyre Affair, Lost in a Good Book and The Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde. Very fun books. If you've ever wondered/hoped the characters from your favorite books have lives, well, this goes into it. Thursday is a literary detective.
Before that it was The Big Over Easy and The Fourth Bear also by Jasper Fforde. More detective work, but this time it's the Nursery Crime Division. It delves into the sorted lives of nursery characters. Very silly and very fun.

I have started to read lately Robert Asprin books. He has a good sense of humour, the books are cca PG rated. They are easier reads than lets say Terry Pratchett books, better suited for a younger audience, but they are still enjoyable for older guys like me. Myth-Adventures Cover Gallery
