What about different sorting options?

A few suggestions would be (stile this one from wingnut) All time highest rated links, Last weeks highest rated links, etc. Another "sort by" I would REALLY like to see is "recently commented on" - you know like how the forum goes to the top of the list if it was just commented on... Like that, so "hot topics" of discussion can easily be found and added to.

I apologize if this has been suggested already.

Having a better way to move up and down category trees would be helpful.

Even if it is only an "up level" button next to the header of the category you are in (Mets up level brings you to Baseball etc).

My two cents.

*** Note: Icepigs said: "I just thought of this.....
How about an "Up a Level" button?"

I second that emotion.

I just noticed that "health" appears in two sections - as a main category and as a subcategory under "science".

Just a suggestion to, y'know, maybe dump one?

EDIT TO ADD: OK, I'm a dummy. I've just realized that I'm at a high enough level to modify categories myself, and that this is one of the things Plime is intended to do.

But... which one do I delete? My first instinct is, since there are fewer stories in the main "health" category, to move them to the subcategory under science and delete the main heading. But what if people WANT health as a main heading?

After much head scratching, I have folded under the weight of my godlike site-changing ability and decided to just leave everything well enough alone.

What about a link to get back to plime.com/f from whatever other forum you may be led to with one click instead of logo click, forum click?

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

I would like to suggest bringing back the non-anonymous votes. Reason is here.

The first six links on delete (at the time of this post, from "Rare Johnny Cash Video"
to "Mario Bros. VS GTA", they are voted down to the point of hitting the delete file, and not a single comment explaining why. I don't mind down votes, but the ones I recieved on two of my posts (that are on this list) have absolutely no information as to why, and I have the suspision that they were voted down, just to advance on the leader board.

If these are not anonymous, I think people would be hesitant to vote like asses.

A suggested FAQ for voting purposes:

When should you vote down?: Repeat posts, vile or offensive posts, blatantly insulting posts targeting a person or group of people.

When should you vote up?: Entertaining links/comments, thought provoking links/comments, humorous posts, or anythign else that adds to your overall enjoyment of the site.

When should I avoid voting up or down?: If the article does not interest you, it is wise not to vote at all on it. Comments that do not add to or take away from your enjoyment of the site should not be voted on.

That's all I got. Hope that helps. It does need covered in the FAQ as common sense is not so common. Some guidelines would certainly help.

Just click "forum". No need to click the logo or anything else.

How about some indication/icon on the forum as to which ones you've participated in?

I think he's referring to when you looking at a music post and hit forum, it takes you to the forums, but only under the music category.

So hit "plime.com"

Right on, hit plime.com, then hit forums. That's what I have to do too, but it's an extra step really. Wouldn't it be better if you hit FORUMS where ever you are and it just went to the main forums page?

Oh, I get it. I kinda misunderstood a little.

SUGGESTION: I think the popular board needs a higher value beofre posts show up there. For instance, I post a video and it already has a rating of 20, someone with a 15 gives it an up-vote, and it's automatically on the popular board. Maybe switch it to the number of times the link was clicked, or a higher value to avoid this. One day some people are going to have karma ratings over 35, and that would automatically place them on the leader board.

Give it a minimum number of actual votes, too. That's what Newgrounds does before it decides to save or delete a flash entry.

Oh no! A double post!
I think it would be wise to make news submissions anonymous and hide the recent votes thing, because most of the links getting high scores are submitted by popular users. Everything else is just plain ignored.

After using Plime for a while now, I find myself either constantly popping in and out of news stories I've commented on to see if anyone replied, desperately trying to remember the number of replies to news stories to see if they've increased since I commented last, or, the least reliable method, checking my recent karma changes which is sometimes an indication of action on a news story.

I'd *love* some icon or indicator to show whether someone's commented after me in a news story. I don't even mind if they haven't replied to me, I just want to see if something's changed in there since I last looked/posted.

Would be useful if, on the leaders page, your own name was highlighted wherever it appeared. Nothing over the top, just italicised or bolded (?) or something similar.

Even an icon on a thread or forum that indicates "you've posted in this forum", would be nice.

Some forums have monitoring features. I am not sure what the driving s/w is for this forum, but that feature is handy, too.

I think, to prevent any further incidents like the one I caused, there should be a limit to how old something can be and still be votable. Of course, I also still think news picks should be anonymous.

That's a great idea, and tops on my list of enhancements after the site structure is completed. I'm about 80% done with structure so far.
