About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

Awwwww, whatever. Don't make me go get the other TP. You couldn't handle a double dose of TP.

« imnotyoo : I've thought about it too. I think it's a great idea.

Here's a tweak on the idea:

1. Anyone of the level of 40 can see IP addresses.
2. When a person of level 40+ views the IP address, the viewing is logged (to keep people from abusing the power and as a check and balance thing)
3. It takes three users of level 40+ to ban an IP address. It doesn't have to all be at the same time, maybe just three boxes that can only be checked by a 40+ and you can only check a box for an IP address once.
4. There must be a thread started and the majority of the participating community must agree on banning the user. This is a democracy, after all.
The level 40 idea has its merits, but I think it'd be fun to nominate- and vote for- Modmins. Rotating positions, for six months at at time.

Plime is small enough right now that it is basically one big clique. It won't always be that way, and it won't be long before this place starts to get fractious. It's starting to show signs of it now.

The 40 plus club would have undue influence, and it would attract those who desperately want to become a big deal on the internets by power posting, sucking up, and the like. Do you want N00bs following you around like puppies trying to earn favor? (Hmm.. Maybe an army of minions wouldn't be so bad after all... *scratches chin*..)

In short- Anyone with that kind of influence would have to be impartial by nature. They'd have to have Plime's best interests at heart, not their favorite group of peeps.

You ARE that n00b :D I joke, I joke.

I'm totally against any type of moderator ect. It would only take the said moderator or someone he/she was friends with to fall out with someone and instant bias.

Plimes a wiki site for Gods sake. Let everyone get on with whatever they want to do and suffer the consequences.

I don't know why it's really necessary to be able to edit anyone's comments. Take that ability away and there'd be no hoohaa over deleting peoples comments.

That would be another change that's probably never realized. I mean, how many of those users did we see since Plime exists? Five? Ten?
And how many hours of coding and debugging would it take Jax to build an entirely new feature like that? Fifty? A hundred?

Guys, we still don't have a working search engine! It's not going to happen!

By the way, I don't know what it's like at your places, but my IP changes about... daily?

Edited to add:
We ought to keep the ability of editing comments, if only for maintenance reasons. One thing that could be changed in a matter of minutes would be setting the userlevel for comment editing (+6 so far) to +10 or higher, i.e. it would take a level 25 to edit a comment made by a level 15 user and so on.

I don't like this idea, to be honest.

One of the things I like about Plime is the lack of moderators and superpowers (except Jax, of course, but he's god), and I don't feel good about giving extra power to someone.

Providing we don't see a dramatic increase in the amount of dummy users such as fckplime, I think we'll be okay just downvoting them into oblivion without needing to give someone extra mod power.

Back in the day, I remember we downvoted ...I think it was Harmsy22 or someone from 21 to -1, and we got rid of FriedBrains on our own, though I think Jax was involved in the IndieRock maddness at the end.

My point is, I don't think we're at the point where we need to give someone extra power, and I'd really like it if we never get to that point here at Plime.

I would agree with that. It also allows for changes to pornographic or other such comments that may crop up.

We are all moderators and admins. We've shown that it does work.

Thanks Molly for getting my back and editing out the rest of that crap too, though, I could'a stood a good throw down today. I think I know who it is, too.

Btw, what did it say about me? I'm sure I'll cherish it forever, or 30 seconds, results may vary.
