Is is the principle of the whole thing. I wasn't in the majority, I spoke my mind *respectfully* and got downvoted for it.

Oh and I love the s**t out of you, too!

I have a very strong feeling that you were not dv'ed for your dissenting opinion. I, personally, think you were dv'ed because your post in the thread was not constructive, and seemed like trolling.
Again, in a public forum ruled by peers, I had as much a right in my respectful dissent as you did with originally posting your thread, as 2many said.

first of all, plime does pretty well and will continue to as long as the majority of plimers treat each other fairly.

No. I downvoted this thread because of the drama that went on in the other thread. Drama that you instigated and flames you fanned.
This is the problem, downvote the offending comment and forget about it. Don't hold a grudge, everyone posts something that may be offensive once in a while. My biggest problem with this site is that people upvote their friends for ANYTHING they say, and hold these little grudges against certain people.

People need to start only upvoting GOOD CONTENT. that is what makes plime great. no more upvoting articles/comments just because you like the person who posted it, no more downvoting just because the person who posted it is a creationist.

« doggylives : By power posting I'm assuming ya mean huge volumes of posts in one day? I dunno, would ya explain that because I'm not sure what you mean.

I know there's a small number of Plimates who regularly and consistently post in the news section every day and get upvoted a lot due to people appreciating and enjoying the posts. Is that what you meant by power posting?

When you look at it though, if it wasn't for these people regularly and consistantly posting, Plime would pretty soon be boring because there's a large number of Plimates who very rarely post but instead choose to enjoy and comment on the "power-posters" submissions

Care to give an example of someone who "power posts" because I'm not fully sure I understand what you mean and an example would help.
Well, doggy, my buddy. I have to interject here and I haven't read all the comments because this is MY thought so if it is shared with anyone, so be it.
You mentioned in your response that Plime would be a boring place because there is a large number of Plimates who very rarely post but instead choose to enjoy and comment on submissions and it appears that I would be one of those people; however, the actuality of it is that every time I find something that I think is post worthy, it has more often than not been posted already. Many times by the so-called "power-posters."
I do not view Plime as a competition (except with leeh but we are always competing against each other) so I don't hold it against anyone if they have beaten me to a good story. It is just slightly disappointing to think you have something great to share and find that it was already found.
In the last 23 hours is you posted 12 items. In looking at others like 2many and Dolly, they had 3-4 in the last 24 hrs.
Some may perceive 12 in 23 and other days 17 in 24 as power posting.
Now, I am not attacking you. You wanted an example and I gave you one. You just happened to be the example.

thast the problem though, because people are already in that mindset they don't care what you say or do they're going to keep up/downvoting how they see fit. its terrible to think that way but

i feel if we start posting more postively and looking at things at a more humorous glance we'll be better off and won't have to post threads like this

Honestly when I'm scanning the articles I rarely ever look to see who posted it, i go based off the title.. then i read the comments then i read the article and then i comment and vote accordingly.. if someone posts 12 good articles in a 24 hour period and they all get upvoted i say props to who found them.. if they're dupes they'll get treated accordingly, and if they're not interesting i don't upvote them.. either way more articles for me to read and learn stuff about..

I understand what your saying but it's a huge internetz out there and if for instance I held off posting something I found interesting just because someone else might want to post it, then the item I found might never get posted.

Should I hold off posting items so that others have the chance to find and post them?

The whole "power-posting" thing just seems a bit ridiculous as the whole idea of Plime is to share interesting things you find on the internet no?

I'd be more than willing to post a thread asking to not be upvoted on any posts I submit if it would put an end to the gripes about "competition" ect.

It seems like the ones that gripe about things like this are the ones who ARE bothered about levels, upvotes ect. (not you CL, just in general)

All this moaning and uptightness and holding grudges and downvotes for no reason and "who posts too much" and all the rest of it is really putting me right off Plime. I keep giving it time to settle down but it's not going to I think.

POWERPOSTING is great when it benefits the site.

POWERPOSTING is bad when it's someone that posts 300 pictures or gifs or whatever in a thread.

I don't care who posts what in the news section, but seeing crap like that on the forums gets on my nerves, so I don't visit those threads anymore. That's what I think powerposting is, not posting a bunch of articles, unless they're all crap. Sometimes they are, but hey, crap doesn't shouldn't get upvoted.
