This thread made me finally take the big plunge from IE to FF.

I've known it's better than IE for ages,
but I just couldn't get myself to get rid of IE

I think they put drugs in it that makes you keep it, even though you know it's bad for you.

By the way, I'm totally loving firefox, installed some nifty add-ons, and it even has a spelling corrector on it (funny enough, the only thing wrong in this piece of text (according to the program), is the word "firefox")

but yeah, not going back...ever!

Ugh I'm a hard cookie to crack. I've downloaded FF and never really bought into it. For My experience it's slower than IE7

Stone him!!

Srysly though, Try the tweaks in pock's earlier comment and see if it's any quicker for you. I've always found it quicker than IE personally.

Are you talking about the Beta versions or just FF in general?

Firefox 3 Release Candidate is now available. Just downloaded and it seems great. Some nice improvements on V.2

Been using it for a little while now and there are still a couple of issues with it, but over all it's good.

The auto-complete on the address bar is a bit annoying, but I have a feeling that if that feature survives to the final release there will be addons a plenty to modify it.

Also it doesn't seem too keen on remembering changes to the navigation buttons.

Other than that, no major problems.

I downloaded it then deleted it the same day. Autocomplete really gets on my tits, so until it goes, FF3 won't be staying on my PC.

Apart from that it seems pretty good I hope that most of the people who make the add-ons are quick to update them so they run on 3.

I will move with the times eventually but even IE7 has the option to turn autocomplete off.

I use FF and my favorite addon is the Mario Bros addon. It makes my browser look like this:

And all my scroll bars look like this:

And my forms/popups look like this:

Also, at my work part of my job is making sure our products are compatible with a certain list of supported browsers. Nearly 90% of our users are all on IE 5 6 or 7... its sad really.

hehe... you said tits.

Seriously though, I installed Ubuntu (linux) and it comes with FF3. I haven't really noticed much of a difference. The autocomplete is annoying if you're actually looking at it when you're entering in the address. I think it will be something you can turn off in the final release.. at least I hope it is or I'm going to have to figure out a way to disable it.

I've just found a sort of fix for it, but it should be there as a tick box, in my opinion.

Start about:config and find the entry browser.urlbar.maxRichResults and change the value from 12 to 0.

This restricts it to one result, presumably the most apt.

I can, as it goes, live with that. But I can see why a person would not want to do that.

It wouldn't bother me so much but for some reason the autocomplete goes cross-user profile. Stuff that Claire looks at on her user profile comes onto my autocomplete and vice-versa. Obvious reasons why I don't like it.

My Ubuntu came with FF2. I suppose I really should get round to updating it but to be fair I'm on vista most of the time playing games. I know I can run games under WINE but to be fair Crysis will only run on low settings whereas with Vista I can get it to run on high.

IMO if FF called me a bastid every time I typed in the address bar I could cope with it, especially when you consider the alternatives.

I hated FF when I first used it but then discovered there was an add-on or hack or workaround for almost every feature of it and I was hooked. If you can be bothered to take 10 mins here and there to customize it it will reward you with the best browsing experience that you can currently get.

All IMHO of course.

Dunno, Opera is pretty adaptable too, the only thing that lets it down is that some stupid people out there design sites that it can't open.
