I'm back since midnight (2 hours ago). I haven't slept since yesterday, and I've driven hundreds of miles, and I'm still totally psyched. It was unbelievably great - the place, the people, our work. I learned a ton of new stuff, I ate delicious food, and I drank gallons of red wine. I also inhaled a whole lot of toxic fumes, but it was definitely worth it.
I'll share a few impressions (all shot with my cellphone camera - apologies).
Sunrise in Locarno, Switzerland:
Half of our luggage and equipment at the cable car - on arrival here one week ago (which seems like a month already), we learned that one of our cars had broken down in the Gotthard Tunnel earlier, so we had to return there and pick up the people and their stuff.
The cable car:
Yes, up there.
After we had sent all our stuff up that mysterious rope, we left back the cars and followed a steep path up the mountain. After a while we passed the most picturesque village you'll ever see:
Lago Maggiore, from half way up the mountain:
We finally reached Formine, an abandoned village that was rediscovered and purchased by a group of artists and is being restored since the 1980s. We were accomodated in a hotel building from the 1920s - the hotel had never opened because the road to Formine was never built.
My room with a view:
On the terrace:
stair leading to the kitchen:
Barbecue, film student style (note the grip mount):
We also tried the oldschool equipment:
We processed all the material by ourselves and edited on the floor:
One last view from the terrace, today (yesterday) after sunrise:
And you're right! Two of us are still "stuck" there since they have to wait for the car to be repaired in order to bring the rest of our stuff back here - we're expecting them to return in a few days, but who knows? Maybe they'll just stay forever.
«gratheo : Wow, SK... that's beautiful! I hope you had a great time. I'm watching the video you guys made now.
Wut?
We didn't make a video. We shot on film. And the reel is still in my bag. There's no way someone could have uploaded anything yet. What are you talking about?

Whoops, man am I braindead today. I clicked those youtube links at the bottom of the first post. But youtube's being really annoying and they hadn't loaded yet.
Note to self - after cast parties, sleep is usually a good idea. Hypothermia is NOT a good idea. Walking home at five in the morning while soaking wet and the temperature being roughly eight or nine degrees? Also not a good idea. I'm a little...confused right now.
I'm unpacking my bags right now, and the thought of finding a scorpion somewhere in there is scaring the crap out of me. We found a few in various beds over there, so there's a chance I brought one with me.
In that case, this thread becomes a real suicide note, and you may finally bury me. Or at least hand me a bag of ice and drive me to the hospital.
I'm not used to finding scorpions. I caught one in a jar and kept it for a few days, along with a nasty spider. The scorpion was evil, although it didn't do much most of the time. Every once in a while, it would go nuts and try to attack whoever was holding the jar.
