You're shipwrecked on a deserted island.

You may be there a day or 20 years...you just don't know.

You get 1 book, 1 (solar powered) MP3 player with a single album of your choice (no anthologies or greatest hits allowed), and 1 additional item. The additional item cannot be used to get you off the island, so "a boat" or "a cell phone" cannot be used.


So...

What book to you bring? What CD is ripped to that MP3 player? What's your additional item?

The book would probably be The Sword of Shannara (as much as I love Enders Game, it would be too short and I would probably grow tired of it).

The CD would be Rage for Order (although The Real Thing would be a close 2nd)

My one additional item would probably be a fishing pole.. After reading other's responses, I have to go with Maven and take the SOG PowerLock.

My book would probably be Robert Heinlein's Tim Enough for Love.

CD would probably be The Beatles "Let It Be", with "Rubber Soul" a close second.

My additional item would be an enormous bottle of moisturizing sunscreen. I would make a fishing pole.

Book: What To Do if Shipwrecked on Desert Island

CD: Legend - Bob Marley and the Wailers. Seriously, find better beach music anywhere. And don't even say Jimmy Buffet. Unless maybe your additional item is a margarita mixing set, but probably not even then.

Item: Can I say a luxury yacht?

My book would be my Kindle...No? Darn. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then.

CD...Grey's Anatomy Season 1 Soundtrack

Additional item...SOG PowerLock

My book would be The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

The album would be Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle.

My additional item would be flint to make fire although I wear glasses so I could probably make fire that way. Perhaps my additional item would be a tooth brush.

My book would be a survival book. Not sure which one, but let's just say, SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea

My CD, after careful thought, would probably be something classical. Say Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

My additional item would be an excellent quality hunting knife.

My book would be "1001 ways to prepare yummy seafood dishes" (more on that later)

My CD would be Modest Mouse's self titled album.

My item would be a magical ice chest that could produce any seafood I want in unlimited quantities. Yummy.

My book would be The Lord of the Rings. My CD would be a mix tape of songs I'd gotten from my friends.

My additional item would be a person — Bear Grylls. I love that man; he could keep me alive and entertained!

book-- the Autobahn Society book of tropical plants, or where ever the island I'm stuck at is.

Album-- probably Pink floyd, dark side of the moon. the only album to really take you away.

one extra thing-- (since i cant take a Plimette of my choice with me) a bowe knife with a magnesium flint fire starter in the handle. the one I have is 20 years old but i used it like a week ago and it still started a fire "ricky tick"

I'd rather take Suvivorman, Les Stroud. He doesn't sneak away and sleep in a hotel when the cameras are off.

And isn't nearly that attractive ;).

I couldn't do it. I would go mad, seriously mad.

I read books like most people munch crackers; when we go shopping Claire will buy a magazine and I will buy a book. I will usually finish it before Claire finishes hers.

The 1 album thing would also drive me mad. I once went to Greece for 2 weeks with a Sony discman and forgot to take any cds so got stuck with the one disc that was in it. Dead Kennedys - Bedtime for Democracy. I binned it after I got home.

The one item I would take would be a mirror.

Ray Mears said that a mirror can be seen shining up to 20 miles away on a clear day. In fact they could spot the light from the mirror without even spotting the island.

I've spent the last two days at work putting together our survival packs and drop packs and writing up emergency preparedness plans. The last thing I'd want shipwrecked with me is music!!

Cd: Seriously can't choose just one right now, I'll update after some thought, I'm kinda leaning towards Little Feat - Little Feat album, but my love of metal is pulling me towards something different, you're right Dav, this is hard.

One Item: Machete. All the survival guys reckon it's a must have for making shelters ect

CD: The Moon & Antarctica - Modest Mouse

Additional Item: Lifetime supply of beer

I'm not gonna lie to you, man. It seems a bit repetetive, and like a waste of the only item you get, when you can just fashion numerous devices to catch unlimited quantities of seafood. After all, you're on a freakin' desert island.

It would make more sense to have that magical ice chest produce unlimited quantities of steak. I promise, after a few weeks on a desert island, you'll be pretty tired of seafood, and desperately wanting real meat.

My book- The Simirilion(it would take me forever to read it all the way through)

My CD- Across the Universe soundtrack

My Additional item- either a tobacco plant, so that i can grow mo tobacco from it to smoke or a marijuanna plant, same reasons......i think i'll go with mary-jane
