plime sucks!

not the members...plime.

I have avoided making this post, but making the "Nick Cage sucks" thread didn't ease my deep feelings of pointing out suckiness, and now I really have to get this off my chest.

First off, I love you guys and don't want anyone to take this personally...Here goes nothing:

I watch a little news in the morning before leaving to work...then on my drive I hear some news...and, without fail, sometime during the day, I'll visit plime, and when visiting plime, everything I've already heard that day is on plime, and not much of anything else.

plime used to have different content, used to be different... stand out
Now it seams to be exactly like everything else...and is, sorry for saying this out loud, boring!

I only bring this up because I believe this could lead to the ultimate death of plime.

...and yes, I've been guilty of doing this too.

As a relative newbie, I can can say in my short time here the focus of the site has changed from news and current topic discussion to ummm more social interaction.

Maybe it's just my perception, and my perception is more often that not skewed.

1) What kind of content would you like in the news section?

2) Plime news was at a time just like Fark, and then at a time it was like a tabloid, now it is like news. If you dont like plime dont worry it will change soon enough.

Ya know what, YOU SUCK!
jk. I see what you're saying. It does have a lot of different stuff too though. I'd advise you to skip over the mundane links that you've already heard on the radio, and check out the different stuff, because there really is a lot of it.

I understand what you're saying Hoosk. Sometimes plime is just like going to the news page at yahoo or cnn. I don't come to plime to get my daily news reports, I come here for "different" news and stories. I find myself just breezing past most of the postings, because I've either heard the report already, or it's just another "common" news story.

I love it when plimates post unusual stories and great finds that you can't find on the news.

And, I, too, have been guilty of this as well.

I'm trying to be very selective with what I consider "plime worthy".

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

I hear ya on this which is why I've slowed right down in my posting, I try and avoid posting news that's easily available to find with a quick Google and a flick through your RSS feed. (unless it's something that's really caught my eye)

However, and this isn't aimed at you Hoosker, well maybe a bit :) but there's a few people that have recently moaned, See this thread, that they feel the content on Plime is boring/mundane who have contributed very little themselves in the way of news in the past 6 mths.

I think just ignore what you find uninteresting and move on to something you do find interesting. I've seen people moan, as you can see in the link I provided, about posts being old hat/boring and the post has done really well and been appreciated and enjoyed by a lot of people.

One man's old is another man's new, or something...

I guess that's why there's a downvote button.

for those suggesting I ignore the common news posts...I have been.

maybe I'm longing for the good ol days when plimers set out on ventures to bring us the hidden and obscure treasures of the internets.

You wan't hidden obscure internet treasures? I've got loads of 'em. To be honest, I think some of them would scare you s**tless! Plus, they kept getting downvoted, and I was told if I posted one more thing pertaining to amputee necrophilia I would no longer be allowed to participate around here.

You are actually right on this.
I have seen downvotes on normal interesting items because it is "not news" it is something constantly there, or too old (lets say 5 years old, never seen on plime)

It all depends on who votes on it first. If there are 3-4 triggerhappy plimates in the range of 10-20, and want an excuse to downvote something, a post like this can vanish without trace in seconds.

I totally agree. I post about 90% less regular news stories than I used to.

I hadn't noticed, but then again, I don't watch the news, I don't listen to news radio, I don't have a water cooler to hear about news, and I'm not a news tab regular.

Here's a suggestion. Just throwing it out for consideration.

I've always thought that calling the News tab News didn't do it justice, gave it the wrong flavour.

Perhaps changing that to, just off the top of my head, either Links or Stories would help bring back the feel it needs.

Even after a good year or so here, I still feel like a newb. I have only posted a few things, and probably in the wrong place, too. -- I'm still finding hide-ee-holes on here that I didn't know existed.

Like just now, someone posted a photo - and another member pointed out that there was a thread for one off photos. I did not know that.

I have seen a lot more "public correcting" lately. In a way, it's good, keeps things on track, but I'm afraid to do it wrong, so I typically don't post unless I'm certain I've done my due dilligence.

The thing is, everything we post, by the nature of the site, is already posted somewhere else. So yeah, its rehashed stuff. The only truly original/novel content would come from blogs, personal sites, or posting stories directly to the site (like the forums). And we have a moratorium on all those things (forum option aside).
