DVD Review: PS I Love You

I was against renting this. But sometimes I have to let my wife pick a s**tty movie that I have no interest in seeing, that way I can one day pick a kung-fu movie or sci-fi flick that she has no interest in seeing. So she got PS I Love You.

The gay guy at the video store told us to "get a box of tissues."

Great. Sounded promising.

So we start watching the movie and it's all romantic in the beginning, as expected. Then the dude dies, but planned ahead so that his wifey would recieve a letter each day from him for like the next year or some s**t.

Yeah, I know; "Awwwwww." It's both sad and cute, right?

But this whole f**king plot bothered me. What bothered me about it? I had one question very early on in the movie that was NEVER answered. It was a huge gaping hole, the kind that Godzilla would step through on his way to Tokyo.

How did he die? Now, there are a few follow up questions to this, but the main question is how did he die? How could he have planned all of this? He must have known he was dying, but they made no mention of it.

Scene one, they're making love in the morning. Scene two, he's dead. Scene three, all these f**king letters start coming in the mail. I mean, 365 letters (or so, it could have been a leap year). He wrote 365 f**king letters and his wife didn't have a clue? In one of the letters he mentions that he was writing it while she went out to get some ice cream, they must have had ice cream like every f**king day or something in order for him to write that many f**king letters for her. What the f**k?!? How long was this a*****e dying?

So the whole time I'm getting irritated by this, I keep glancing over at my wife to find her in tears.

One good thing I'll say about it is that when they drank beers it was always a dark beer; which is a nice break from the piss yellow swill the movies generally seem to feature.

Overall rating, 2 stars ** (that's out of five).

Admittedly, I am biased because I hate chick flicks, but I've seen a few that I liked. This was not one of them.

The book was written by the Taoiseach's daughter and I've heard that it is neither original nor well written so I'm in no rush to see the film.

Great review. I wouldn't have known this movie existed if it weren't for you.

To be honest, DEP. I haven't read the book or seen the film, but even I could have saved you the trouble and told you it was sh*te.

It is because he really isn't dead. No, he's shacked up with the babysitter (or possibly his wife's sister) and just wants to screw with her head.

Thanks for the review. I'll know not to buy/rent the movie.

And who the hell was sending the letters??? EVERY DAY! FOR A YEAR! lame

I always pick apart movies if they're lame. My dad does the same thing. Drives his wife crazy... especially if we're all watching the movie together and he and I are slaughtering the thing. I guess it kind of ruins the mood. ;)

I see why did you agree to rent it, but why did you watch it?

Until you asked this question, I assumed you were married. But clearly you are not, or you would never have asked such a thing.

Ninjas killed him.

They told him he had one year to get his affairs in order and then they were coming for him.

It was an awesome fight scene and it looked like the guy was going to win, but there were just too many of them.

The producers decided to cut that scene from the final movie, but it was in the deleted scenes on the DVD. You DID watch the deleted scenes right?

DEP, you dropped the ball on this one big daddy. They mention how he died like 4 times throughout the boring, sad ass movie.

The question for me wasn't how did he die, but how did he know that he was going to die?

[edit] Oh, a brain tumor. I must have been getting some more beer when they revealed that.

Whatever, it still sucked

Am I seeing things or has your screen name changed appearance? And how did you do that?

When you log in, change whatever cases you would like. The screen name is not case sensitive, but it remembers what you type. It's in the FAQs, you know.

Case sensitivity of screennames discovered by Maven.
