That is just a completely adorable term for a kitten.

Yeah. That's really gross too. Missing the days when they weren't! ;)

One of them peed all over the floor yesterday, so I think they're getting there...

Sorry, didn't mean to abandon you in the middle of this thread.

Ok, if they are pooing or peeing anywhere but a litterbox make sure that a) you have a litter box with a wall low enough for them to climb into and b) when you clean up an accident use a paper towel or newspaper or something similar and put it into the litterbox that you want them to use. They will follow the smell. If you actually see them squat, pick them up and put them in the box.

Clean any unwanted area with bleach and/or citrus, do not use anything ammonia based (you probably know this already). If need be, put aluminum foil in that spot (they hate the smell of banana too...). Since you want to encourage them to use the "box" and not your floor/carpet you need to make the place where you want them to go smell like the place you want them to go. It's still a learning curve, so be a bit patient but do pick them up and move them to the appropriate area if you catch them in the act.

I'm glad they're going on their own, that's a step in the right direction!

I don't know if hand raised kitties are more apt to suckle on things than ones that stay with their mommas. I have kittens raised to adulthood that still suckled when given the opportunity.

Case in point:

That's cute! Poor mama said, "I don't think that's the correct orange one."

Working on the litter thing. I had a hard time finding litter to use, everything said no clay, no clump, no crytal, which leaves no litter ;) Found crunched up pine stuff to try. Just got a box in there with them now. Wasn't expecting them to go on their own quite yet. They don't really seem to dig around in the litter too much yet, but I made them pee in it tonight, so hopefully they'll figure it out. Using a shoebox lid at the moment, until I can get them in a bigger area and get them their own larger box. They almost seem to be more "leaking" ATM, not so much doing it on purpose, at least I haven't seem anyone squat. Not frequently, just if I didn't get them to go soon enough after eating. Is that normal? I've got this Bene-Bac stuff, haven't given them any, but do you think they need it?

They are working on the wet food a bit now, still prefer their bottle though.

Yeah, they'll want the bottle for a while but you won't have to do it every four hours if they start eating solids pretty regularly.

I have not tried bene-bac, what's it suppose to do? If you're giving them KMR and solids they should be getting all they need.

Well "leaking" is ok, they don't really know what they're doing. Some of mine would cry when they had to poop but their momma just ignored them. I thought they were going through some traumatic event then discovered they just needed to poop and this was cause for them to be alarmed. They don't quite understand the bodily functions until it happens a few times.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things.

As for litter, I found a kind that I now swear by called Cedarific. It's cedar saw dust. Keeps the smell down, is very absorbent and almost clumps like clumping litter (easy to scoop) so I end up using less. The added benefit is that it's a natural insecticide, I can only find it in one store here though. The newspaper kind and the wheat husk kind are good too, but more expensive than the cedar stuff (around here anyway).

I just switched over to Feline Pine clumpable. It looks like sawdust. That may be what dexhol got. I like it, low dust, not as smelly and scoops out better. The boxes seem to stay cleaner, it doesn't stick to the litter box like the other stuff does. A small box is $4.99. Since I only have one cat, I only seem to need one box a month. I have not seen the cedar. I'll have to keep a look out for it.

I think it's like pro-biotics. Something about beneficial bacteria in the gut. Hadn't given it to them because it didn't seem like they needed it.

The litter I got is "Cracked Pine" from Healthy Pet. I tried some Feline Pine, but it was really big pellets and just seemed too big for them. Hadn't seen the cedar stuff.

You can buy the cedar stuff online but it costs more than what I'm paying, I get it at Price Chopper, not sure if you have them by you. It's about $5 a 7.5 lb bag and that lasts me at least 2 weeks which is amazing considering the number of cats I have. It's like sawdust too, so not big, and not dusty either. I think if the pine is working and doesn't cause the cats problems (and it's easy to find and economical) then stick with it.

Sorry, I thought I read it a few pages back, but now can't remember, what did you decide to name them?

Feline Pine just came out with the clumpable "sawdust" type, I had tried the pellets a long time ago and was not too impressed. But I like the clumpable.

The grey one is Remi, the little girl is Reno, and the big boy is Xan.

Thanks so much for all your help with these little ones, it really helps to have an ear from someone who's been there before. My family came today and visited them and could not believe how big they've gotten. They say they look double the size from last Sunday, which is nice to hear, because they look the same to me since I see them all the time. They're starting to kind of play with each other and groom themselves now. I'm going to take updated pics in the next couple days.

I didn't see the clumpable stuff, but it also said online to avoid clumping with babies in case they injest it.

Off to fix them a bigger playpen! :)

Update on kitties:

Everyone seems to be doing well. They're growing by leaps and bounds, eating really well, and even using the litter box! Yay!

Xan is actually able to run a little now too, they can all walk very well. We're still working on their wet food (they much prefer the bottle, up to drinking almost two bottles per feeding now). Sometimes they do shove their little faces in the wet food and go to town. Lonnie is trying very hard to show them how tastey kitten food is.

I tried really hard to get new pics, but it's even harder now. They chase you all over and climb up your legs when you stop, so it involves running from one end of the apartment and snapping shots until they catch you, and then starting over. Fast little buggers. The flash does funny things with their eyes too. Don't think they have lazy eyes in real life, but who knows...

Anyways, without further ado:

Reno (left) and Xan (right) Reno's eye is all cleared up, and Xan's ear is pretty much healed.

Remi:

All three. Reno is such a ball of fluff, she's going to be SO furry!

And also, cuz it's cute, sleeping on their stuffed animal mom with built in heartbeat that their grandmother bought them:

I'm sure the horse people will appreciate that the cardboard is tied to the cage with baling twine and there's a nylon leadrope woven through the bottom rungs... Gotta us what I got I guess ;)

Kitties are still doing well. My mom is going to adopt one, the little fuzzy one, Reno. Unfortunately, she's going to call her "Twinkle Ireland". I've been calling her Football because she likes to run into your feet when you walk aand flies very far. Anyways, here's a crappy video taken from my cell phone for cuteness sake.

Hopefully it will show up, don't know if Plime plays with motionbox or not.

Or maybe if the embedded doesn't work...
