Old people should get retested for their drivers license every year
«Boomshank : The only thing we're trying to discriminate against here is people who are unable to drive safely.
Dude. Read the post above the one you quoted. I was talking about the suggestion that elderly people not be allowed to vote. Revoking an older person's right to vote just because that person is older is discrimination, and the only discrimination I was objecting to.

Ooops, my bad. Totally agree with you on that point. In fact, I'd say that older people are generally more valuable voters than younger.
I showed my nan my post in this article - about her driving - and she went for me.
Christ the womans an ox. 86 and she has me (an ex boxer) ducking and diving for my life.
Still - its a laugh innit.
Oh, and just a quick point about discrimination. 12 years in and out of loony wards and over 20 psychiatrists caused my social life to be torn apart on many an occasion.
Chiiill winston. Its just a bleedin comment in a forum. And discrimination IS at a point now where the main problem is sensitivity about discrimination.
Ralax. Have fun. My bro used to get proper wound up about his big nose. So I tell him quite regularly how big it is (Massive) Now its just a joke to him. BUT - if everyone just bent over and never said anything due to his temper he would still have a problem today.

«jaxomlotus : Last night our leasing company dropped off our new car, much earlier than expected. We were pleasantly surprised and thought we could now return our old one, which was expiring on December 10th, instead of renewing it for another month.
So the plan was, she takes the kids to school, then I meet her at a dealership in the new car when she drops it off.
Man plans, God laughs.
My wife just called me up, clearly in shock. "I just got in a car accident. It's really bad, but everyone is OK"
She was driving my two-year-old daughter to school, and had our eight-month-old son in the car as well. She was nearing the school, and went through an intersection that had been green for at least a minute, when out of nowhere an 83-year-old man in an old Crown Vic rumbles through the red light and smashes into the side of her car.
Both airbags deployed and the car is probably totalled. This is going to be a massive headache for us to get sorted out paperwork wise. Luckily there were witnesses who came over to the cop on the scene and said they saw him run the light.
The old man was apologetic, but honestly, I think he's a selfish idiot. When you get to be that age, and you know that your eyesight and reflexes have dimmed, you should not be driving.
Senior citizens should be forced to take a retest every other year, if not every year.
Most of the idiot drivers I see on the road I see are either spoiled teenagers driving $50,000 cars or really old people driving 20 miles an hour on a freeway, or otherwise just backing out of parking spaces without turning their heads because of their arthritis.
We get our cars inspected regularly by law, why not the people driving them?
The answer is because old people vote, and old people would never let a law pass that is bad for old people. It's totally ridiculous though. People who make the road unsafe should not be allowed on it. Period.
Driving is a "privilege" and not a "right". Everyone past the age of 65 should be tested every year after that, which is retirement age.
We watched a very elderly man zoom through a red light this morning while his wife waved her arms about and screamed into her hands. Our double lanes were advancing and screeched to a sudden halt. Nearly the same picture! I'm with you all the way on the tests.
Surveillance video shows 2-year-old Riley standing behind his mother at the bakery's counter when suddenly an out-of-control car crashed through the front of the building. The impact knocked glass and shelves into Riley and his mother, slamming the toddler to the ground.
I'm all for testing everyone at renewal and revoking the license if they are deemed unfit to drive. The thing is, the reason that this is a hot topic is that when you are that old, your independence is diminished. You are probably retired, in failing health, and many of your peers are starting to pass away. So you're stuck at home with not much to do, or living with your kids, being supported by them. For the elderly, the ability to drive is their last sense of independence, and understandably they are very loathe to let go of it.
Still though, safety trumps personal preference, in my opinion. It's just that stubbornness is hard to overcome, especially among one of the largest age groups.
«craziesean : i can see the similarities: drooling incoherent speech pee pants
it all makes sense!
