I'm guessing the land alone it worth 25K, kudos on the buy.

And welcome to the joys of home ownership... lawn mowing, termites, plumbing, homeowners insurance, and property taxes. :D

YAY!! Congrats!!!!!!!!

For fencing for the dogs I totally recommend Invisible Fencing.

We were going to chain link our back yard for the dogs. It was ugly and we were quoted 2300.00.

With invisible fence, we got the front and back yard done and they are separate. So if I let my bullies out the front they can only stay in the front. Same with the back.

The signal is 4 ft high so they won't be jumping over it.

I got a training disk for the inside as well...It helps them recognize the signal for the outdoors, plus, you can place it in an area in the house where you may not want them to go...like a bedroom.

I got two collars, the fence, a yrs worth of batteries and the disk for 1500.00. No ugly fence.

If you do get it, drop my name. I get free batteries. Get the lifetime plan though. If the transmitter they wear gets damaged or broke you get a free one. Lilo chewed the hell out of Nanis collar and it didn't cost me a dime.

If you think it won't work due to your dogs prey drive, you need to see this.

There is a rabbit that taunts my one dog who has a HIGH prey drive. The other two don't care.

That rabbit knows exactly where to go and where to stop. Nani waits constantly, but has never ever crossed the line....even when the rabbit takes off. Nani cannot go past that pine tree.

The seller is coming in from Chicago to sign it over on Wednesday. He's also leaving a wheelbarrow, a ladder, and two large trash cans on the property. Yay!

« TraumaMamma :For fencing for the dogs I totally recommend Invisible Fencing.
I can think of two issues with that: neighbors might not like seeing a pit bull that's not behind a fence, and we have a lot of visiting dogs and they won't all have the special collars. Otherwise I'd be down for it.

Just about, yup! If the house was leveled, the lot would be $30,000. We offered $22,000 and the guy countered with $25,000.

I love the look of the place, how many square feet is it? I can't believe it's so cheap! I'm still in my first house, slowly fixing up here and there. You're gonna have a blast with it, it's fun rennovating, landscaping, and redecorating.

Did you get an inspection? Is that required where you are?

« IcePigs : The cheapest way of doing a privacy fence is to go buy the 8 foot sections at Home Depot or Lowes and do it yourself. It's not that difficult....just lots of manual labor.

But please take my advice and spend the extra couple of dollars and buy metal poles, not the standard wooden 4x4s.
It's cheaper to do raw materials than it is to buy the prefab sections, better lumber too (parts of the panels aren't treated). I used 4x4's and they worked fine in a two foot hole and concrete.

I'm in a hurry so I'll answer the above questions later, but I want to say that we went over there today to show the doggies their new home and a couple of neighbors came by and introduced themselves. Ellen and Mary live in the two houses across the street. They're elderly, hilarious, and sweet. I have a feeling that Mary bakes cookies. They told us about all the other neighbors and it looks like it's a nice block of people :)

While we were there, we saw my mom drive by. She texed me with "You caught me!". She didn't want to stop and interrupt.

Gatta go, more later!

Wait - this wasn't the ad for the house was it (Autumn's post, top of the page)?

The other thing to consider is that a good fence will keep other dogs and children out. The electric fence will keep your dog in your yard, but it will not prevent someone else from invading their space. Since this is in town, I'd worry more about someone else's dog or child coming into the yard and your dogs defending their space. I don't leave my dog outside unsupervised because I can't keep kids from reaching through the fence to try and pet him--but if they get bit, it's still my fault.

We closed today! Zach and I have been homeowners for a couple of hours now. We took the doggies to the house and they love it. Yogurt especially likes that part of the floor is missing. We met the mailman and he seems like a very awkward fellow. I pulled two weeds and dropped off a flower pot, so it's officially ours.

When we got back at the apartment after going in our new home, Zach got a call for a job that we both applied to yesterday. We both got it, which is good, but we're going to be working different shifts, so we're not going to be seeing much of each other, which is ungood. We've had two jobs together before and unlike many couples who are coworkers, we did great. It totally helped with our personal morale too cause those jobs sucked (we don't fight and we work very well together).

So yeah, two good bits of news :)

This all sounds so awesome, INY. Congrats to both of you on the house, and on the new jobs.

Mr. Marli and I spent our first year of marriage doing the opposite shift thing. He went to school nights, and I worked... well, I worked days, evenings, and nights... so pretty much all the time. We saw each other on Sundays, and that was pretty much it.

It's one of those things that sucks, but that you'll probably joke about in a few years.

Good luck! Can't wait for more pictures of the house!

I think this is a record for a closing! I'm not closing until mid-August on my place.

Happy happy dance news that you both got jobs. You'll figure out the shift stuff. Just think how happy you'll be to catch up with each other.

Oh, and keep Yogurt out of those floor holes.

I think it's a record closing time and a record price. The cheapest after our house is $77,000, and it's a D-U-M-P!

We're going to keep looking for a job while we have this one. It's $7 an hour and that's quite a bit less than we're use to.
