My friend and I are trying to get a little side business going for craft stuff we make using recycled items. We call ourselves Trashy Dames.
This is my newest project:
Born near the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, in Portland, Oregon, this chicken/burro hybrid is able to see into your soul with his large, reflective, eyes. If you are a good person, he will love you unconditionally, but evil doer's beware: Churro knows how to give a mean b***h slap.

He's so cute! Are you going to sell them on etsy.com?
That's where I got the idea from. I made one of the creatures from the book, and from there it was really easy to come up with my own design.
Once I make some more of my creatures, I will try to sell them on etsy, but my 7 yr old stole Churro, and the other two kids have called dibs on the next two.
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.
Yes, it is. And have patience, it will be discovered! Hopefully this thread won't violate any Plime self-promotion rules.
There were 5 kids in my family. Both my parents worked, but we weren't rich by any means, so we did a lot of crafts to keep ourselves occupied. I've sold a few things over the years, mostly needlecrafts, including an embroidered jacket I made for a friend that I'd give my eyeteeth to have.
Anyway, I make angels to sell at crafts fairs or for special order now. I sent some to some plimates, they're pictured here. etsy.com has a similar ornament that sells for $5.00, but I sell mine for $3.50-$4.50 depending on materials, or give them away, as the mood strikes me.
I don't claim the rights to the idea (a friend showed me how to make them), so I haven't copyrighted the concept, as someone has already done on etsy.com (great site).
Since most people really seem to like them, I posted the how-to directions. I don't anticipate overlapping markets should someone else decide to begin selling them too. If they do, I'll start making something else, and already have a few ideas mulling around.
As far as making money goes, I do it first because I enjoy it, and secondly because it gives me a little Christmas money. I would recommend keeping a log of your expenses and time so you know what you're putting into the items. You'll probably find you're making about $1 an hour, which is why I do this first because I enjoy it.
Enjoy!
And psychmoe, your jewelry is beautiful... care to work out a barter?
For the ultimate in making plushy toys...this contest is so so tempting. I had two entries in the last one. I don't think I'll have time to do anything this round.

Suebe, you and Bornbad are the pushers of addictive websites. Soon, my husband will have to have an intervention for me....
I love to sew "sock imps." I have perverted the sock monkey pattern into something devilish. You can't see it from the picture, but I made the one on the left a pointed devil's tail.
Sadly, the brown one is now on his way to mexico for a year. This was the last picture they had together.
I've been working on experimenting with different materials and what-not. It takes forever for me to sow by hand. The brown one took 8 hrs. from start to finish, I did it all in one Saturday. I wish I had a sowing machine, it would make sowing the legs and arms much faster.
