I know that the official summer solstice occurred yesterday, but June 21 when we all traditionally celebrate summer solstice.
Today, across the North, various people are celebrating and enjoying the extended (or continuous) daylight. I'm giving my own field crews a shorter day's work, and we're going to celebrate the day with "fireworks" (bear bangers that are recently expired) and a few beers.
In honour of summer solstice, I invite you all to enjoy my favourite story that takes place in "the land of the midnight sun;" The Cremation of Sam McGee.
I'm also sorry, Plimers, that I haven't been here much lately, but I'm up in the field and I'm so very busy. I'm thrilled that I'm pretty much running the show this year, but I have almost no free time as a result. At least the late nights are aren't bad at all because the sun shines all night!
I'm still WAY too far south for midnight sun (60N here), but the good thing is that the lake's halfway ice-free so we were able to swim yesterday. We'll probably go back in today because it's supposed to be hotter. We also have a few beers kicking around. Not too sure what I can light on fire, but there's lots of av gas around......
Maybe I'll see if we can venture up to the barrens today. It's only a few km past the project area. I miss the barrens!

I was too sad to think about this all day because I'm not in the land of the midnight sun :...(
But then, my brothers and I decided to take our Dad up north for his father's day trip so hopefully within the next few weeks I'll be able to sit out in the sun all night again :D
