My point here isn't that your comment was right BB, but that I don't feel it should have been edited, I feel it should have been left for all to see as a multitude of other a*****ey comments (mine included) are.

I think in all actuality that an apology to iate would be in order as your comment came out of the blue and was IMO disrespectful and condescending.

It's a shame that threads like this have to turn into DRAMA instead of being an adult, civil place to discuss feelings, opinions and ideas.

It was an edit without malice from what I've gathered here.

I think the editing (by someone other than the member who commented) should be limited to spam, pornographic material, and links to sites that may have malware/spyware, etc. that the original commenter may not have been aware of. Also, when someone doesn't use the proper tags and formatting, editing is fine in order to clean up the comment.

If someone says something unsavory or insulting and you are offended by it, downvote it. But it is unfair to the rest of the community who doesn't get to see the "real person" who made the comment.

If it is something original commenter regrets, they can either edit it or apologize.

That's my 2 cents, if anyone cares.

It depends on what Jax values. If he's a reasonable man, he values free speech just as much as anyone should, regardless of "hurt feelings".

Downvotes won't do anything. We all know this.

There is no real way to moderate this site.
The higher people get in karma, the less people care about downvotes.
Because they will just keep getting upvoted the next day, so on, so forth.
It makes no dent, there really are no consequences.

That's because that person has earned enough upvotes the other way. That's how the karma works. It's the sum of all of your comment's values. No one should be booted down a level for one comment after getting multiple upvotes on hundreds of others.

You'd be surprised.

Sure, it may not have any effect on the user's karma right away, but it will color how people view the member moving forward.

Just like in "real life".

And as for Jax and drama preventing him from investing more time and money, I can assure you that from a business standpoint, drama increases clicks.

People get upvoted for saying "I lol'd".

Regardless, those upvotes are still there. People decided to click that up arrow. That's all that matters.

If you don't like those kinds of comments, downvote them.

Not to be insulted by people who don't know s**t from shinola. If it was a newer Plimate, the comment would have been edited in a heartbeat.

I don't think causing drama by editing out another user's comment is either. He specifically stated in the FAQs that it wasn't to be done except under very specific circumstances. This wasn't one of those circumstances.

It's going to happen no matter what or where in a mature discussion. Someone's going to come in and either make wild insults or claim that their feelings have been hurt and try to stop the discussion because of it.

That's why we have downvotes. A downvote is the equivalent of giving someone a mean look when they do something stupid. Editing is the equivalent of knocking them out and then dragging the body off to a corner. That's not the best of metaphors, but I think it gets my point across.

If it was, I would have just as much of a problem with it as this.
