Last week I had a woman attacked by a cat. Her skin was hanging off her arms and she was bleeding like crazy. The cat was still in the house with her and someone had to go in and get the cat so she could get out. It was PISSED.

Nope, TraumaMamma didn't make an appearance. But the #1 call was from a woman named Deanna, which is similar to TM's real name.
This woman, Deanna, took a call where her own son was run over by a ride-on lawnmower. The call actually didn't come directly in to her, but the person who took the call transferred it to her, which is just wrong in my opinion. It was pretty f**ked up.
She was talking to her neighbor, about her own kid was cut from chest to stomach and his insides were hanging out (sorry to those who may be eating). Then, while all of this was going on, there were other people calling, so she had to put her family on hold to take other people's calls.
Not really. On my shift, the brunt of calls are angry people. Fights, domestics, drunk drivers....Sometimes we get a flurry of EMS or a fire.
People are just downright rude. They get angry when you ask them where they are (cell phones do not always provide an accurate location) or when you do not give them to the department they think they need.
People call all the time for the Sheriff for traffic accidents. In Lorain county, the Highway Patrol handles accidents in Townships, LCSO handles the domestics, thefts, etc....They think because those two forces are omipresent in the county and have jurisdiction anywhere that they are interchangable.
The most stressful calls are choking calls, because if you don't get the callers to follow directions fast, things can do down really quick. People want to hit everyone on the back and that can make matters worse. Or give them something to eat or drink.
The other ones are suicides, when their loved ones find them. Those are the #1 calls I hate. The people who find them beat themselves up that they should have done this or that....or gotten up when they heard a noise in the middle of the night, etc. I want to cry myself when I hear them tearing themselves apart.
But mostly, on our shift and nite shift, we take alot of verbal abuse.
I have a friend who is a 911 operator for the city. She works the 3-11pm shift.
She had a caller that said "I don't want my baby anymore so I will be dropping it off in the lobby". Yep, the mother did. Dropped the baby off in a car seat, rang the buzzer and left. The next night, someone did the exact same thing with a puppy.
