« 86Apex : I think it was mainly because of all the fat and grease. You felt better after the Gelato though, right?
Much. :D

Also, the company.

DL if my main meal consisted of that I'd starve to death.

The problem being you can see plate between the food.

More food or smaller plates is the answer.

LOl. They're pretty big plates. That steak is just over 300kg. With starter and dessert I'd puke if I ate more than that lol

I have to give you props on creativity for your main course. I love steak, I love mussels, steak with mussels? Genius! Is it good? Canned mussels?

Yep, the mussels are canned. I cook the steak and put it to rest and then use the same pan to fry up the mussels for a minute. Gotta be my favourite way to eat steak. If you like steak and you like mussels you'll f**king love it

Foodies, a question:

In a calzone, is the sauce normally inside, or on the side, as a dipping sauce? What are common calzone ingredients?

Both. Sausage, cheese,mushrooms,spinach...etc.

Yep. There is usually a small amount of sauce inside, either red or white. Filling can be pretty much anything you want. No raw meats, but cooked sausage is fine, and I prefer to pan fry pepperoni to drain off the grease before putting it inside. Any variety of veggies, as well. My favorite: Linguiça, artichoke hearts, red peppers, and cheese, with a white sauce.

Ok. Dinner was a calzone from a place I've never tried them before.

Sauce was on the side. None inside. Marinara on the side. It was an all-cheese calzone; supposedly four kinds, but I could only actually see 2 and taste was... foregone.
...It was only good until about halfway through. I don't think I'll get it again.

Pock's mini-adventure* with a dragon fruit

Earlier on today I saw a curious thing whilst shopping for groceries and brought it home:

There was nothing to identify it and at the time I didn't know what it was - perhaps not the most sensible thing, but it was in a food shop and it looked kinda funky.

I figured (rightly as it turned out) that the WTF Is It?! thread was the right place to try and find out WTF it is. Within moments Davbob had the answer.

Next step - eating it.

I took a knife and sliced it in half:

I love the colour of the skin - it was so intense.

The flesh came out very easily. I just ran a spoon around it and scooped it out.

From there I diced it and ate some of it.

The texture of the flesh is very like a kiwi fruit.

The taste is very mild and a little unusual. It's somewhere between a kiwi, a melon, celery and cucumber.

All in all, I'd have another if it were on offer, but I'd not go out of my way to have one. It looks a lot more interesting than it tastes.

It might redeem itself by making my pee red though.

EDIT: Nope. It was regular colour.

Hoping it doesn't take longer to have it's effect and I forget and first thing in the morning I experience a horrible sensation of fear.

*adventure in the absolute loosest sense of the word. There were no chases or perilous situations.

You could use some of the vanilla yogurt over fruit salad made with apple, banana, orange segments, and dried cranberries. Oh, and don't forget the granola sprinkle!

i already make them frequently, and can't consume more smoothies fast enough to finish off the yogurt in time. :P

ooh, fruit parfaits? forgot about those; sounds very good. though, that involves buying everything but more yogurt, and the food budget has been tight. can't explain how the hell i ended up with so much yogurt, though ...

« bingo : Can you freeze it?
oh yeah ... yogurt does freeze and thaw surprisingly well. discovered that by accident before. though, i think it takes more than just tossing a tub into the freezer to make those frozen yogurt treats ...

Yogurt can be substituted in a variety of recipes.

You can make pancakes with yogurt. Even the flavored kind is fine, gives you some variety to the pancakes.

Plain yogurt scream to be made into Tzatziki sauce and slathered over a variety of foods. Greek meatballs would be my first choice.
