Tomphoolry beat me. Curse you Tom. Love the Solvang, love the pea soup and love the fudge. Raspberries to Tom for being faster. But since I am here, here are a few South Jersey (which should be separate from North Jersey) spots of interest:
There is the Cape May County Zoo that is free. They only ask that you donate to park.
There is the Cape May Lighthouse
Of Course there is Atlantic City with the casinos, shopping, beach and night life.

And last but certainly not least, there is this awesome place that is always open to any visiting Plimates.

Oooops, I gotcha by 12 minutes. But great minds think alike.

Hey, Hoosker. That means Andersen's and Solvang get multiple stars in the guide.

Why would we open a Mexican restaurant when we already got s**t pot full of Tex-Mex restaurants? ;)

Now you're making me hungry for the enchillada plate at Garcia's.

This is a dangerous topic for me. Two things you don't want to get me started on are my dogs and my town, because I super love both. That said...

Is you happen to visit Lawrence, Kansas, here's some stuff:

Lawrence isn't anything like the rest of Kansas. Lawrence is like a mini-San Fransisco, minus the hills (though we do still have hills). Politically, we're a pretty liberal town and we always vote the opposite of the rest of the state.

Do you like basketball? I don't, but a whole lot of other people here do. Basketball was invented in Lawrence and the Kansas University men's basketball team won the 2008 NCAA championship. The town went crazy.

Do you like history? We've got a lot of it. Lawrence has been burned down and rebuilt a couple of times, mostly because we were anti-slavery in a time when a lot of people were still pro-slavery (see Bleeding Kansas). We've had our own massacre (thanks, Quantrill). There's also been a movie filmed here, The Day After. We also have Haskell Indian Nations University, which has a whole lot of crazy history that I'm not even going to start getting into. It was crazy though.

The New York Times said Lawrence had "the most vital music scene between Chicago and Denver" in a travel column on February 25, 2005 and Rolling Stone named Lawrence one of the "best lil' college towns" in the country in its August 11, 2005, issue.

Also, delicious Artichokes and garlic are found at fresh produce stands all throughout that area...mmmmmm

mutil8or...I was hoping you would drop by with some visitor info. You have anything to add that only a local would know...I seem to remember some hot springs down the road.

Are you thinking of Pah Tempe hot springs In Hurricane ?
I am not really a local but I have explored quite a bit of this region. If I know what is being sought after I can generally find a spot or two,
Rock hounding ? artifact hunting ? Ghost towns ? Fossils ? Four wheeling ? Oh and some out of the ordinary scenery as well.

I tried to edit my first post (the Maine one), but it's giving me an error. (Error...editinlinerequest status is 500)

Anyone else want to try inserting this right after the word "Katahdin."?

Fort Knox also does a really cool "Fright at the Fort" a few times each October. The event raises money for maintaining the fort, and it's a guided haunt walk through the fort. The fort itself is very creepy at night, so the added bonus of fake blood, chainsaws, and screaming makes it a lot of fun.

Any of the above would be cool, also...Hikes? Camping?...if you have the time.

I'm hoping to get into some better(longer) mountain hiking shape and hit the John Muir Trail in maybe the next year or so.

The Natural Cafe has wonderful food. I LOVE their soups.

I didn't 'forget' Solvang...I just have never thought it was worth a visit. Sorry, it's mostly tourist 'stuff'. Maybe that's a change from what it used to be, but the food places have always been crowded, with poor service and so-so food, and the stores are...meh. Very heavily tourist-trap sort of stuff. I'd rather visit those places in Estes Park, CO, where at least the scenery there is prettier!

But...if you are in the area, once you get annoyed with the crowds in Solvang, just down the road is the Ballard Inn. It's a lovely BB in a delightful little community, amongst the wineries and vineyards, that has amazing food.

"The Notch"... damn Mr. L8ter, you are in the country of forever. You could walk the country of Utah for the rest of your life and never see the same place twice.

I off roaded the back side of the Virgin river, hiked in Bryce and Zion, did some iron work out in Black Rock...and much more. Yep, I do miss them days. Maybe I'll head back for some nostalgia and show my son some Utah at the same time.

I don't blames you for keeping the secret. I run across a few ruins and ghost towns in my day. One can't really explain how personal the feeling is when you do...

nice job.

Yeah, while it's true that anyone can google a location, the point was to find insider info of something, or somewhere you found interesting, or recommend, as a local.
But thanks for the google tip.
