Would you like to make a Plime quilt together, with the help of the Postal Service?
Zach made a Plime thread joke when I was showing him some beautiful thread that I'm going to be using for my next project and it made me think of making a Plime quilt.
I have a hard time expressing my ideas in words, so please let me know if the following is hard to understand.
I would like all of us, the quilters of Plime, to make a portion of the quilt. We would need to make and agree on the size and placement of the Plime logo (which can be applique if you'd like). I want us all to make a portion of the logo and a portion of the rest of the quilt. I would like nothing to be "regulated" other than the size and placement of the logo, which portion of the quilt and logo you're working on, and the color scheme is purple, green, and gray/silver. What you do with your portion is entirely up to you. Make up your own pattern (let it be a surprise for everyone else) and use whatever fabrics you want to use. Feel free to get creative with your portion of the quilt.
I would like to do the actual quilting, but not the piecing (I don't enjoy piecing, but I love quilting). I hope that's okay with everyone. We can either make one quilt and figure out who gets it, or we can all make enough portions of our quilt for us all to have "a copy" (if four people participate, then you'll make four copies of your portion and I'll quilt four quilts). I personally prefer the multiple-copy idea so we can each have one.
If this idea sounds like something you'd like to participate in, let me know. We'll need to come up with the pattern for the logo, divide the logo and the rest of the quilt up, decide on dimensions, and other technical stuff like that. You'll all eventually need to mail your portions to me, or to each other to put together and then to me to quilt. We can all pick out a backing and binding for our own quilts if you'd like and you can send those with your portions and I'll quilt them with your backing and bindings and send them back to you. For the batting, you can either buy it and mail to to me too, or I can buy it with my 40% discount and you can mail me how much I paid for it (I can't buy batting for everyone, but I'm glad to share my discount with you). We'll talk about all that later though.
«suckersklub : I sense a charity auction on the news front page coming up (via ebay).
:X
(But I don't quilt, so that's easy fo me to say.)
I thought about that too, and we could do something like that, but I know personally I'd like to have one (and with a baby on the way, there's no way I should be bidding on a Plime quilt).
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.
I am thinking that if everyone has a piece of the logo it might be a bear to try to match in up. I suggest instead that everyone put their own little logo in their section.
I like the idea of multiple quilts so each quilter gets their own but I was also thinking of one big one that can be auctioned off in Vegas to fund some special activity.
But as you said, let's see how many join and we can then hammer out the details.
That makes five of us - that's perfect! Would you like to make the plans and whatnot via email so we don't bother the non-quilters of Plime? If so, PM me your email address and we'll get started :)

I think there's room for our interests just as much as anyone else's, but will pm you my email etc. in case the others disagree.
I was thinking email because the same message can be sent to multiple people where in PMs, everything has to be sent to everyone individually. Email would be more like a group discussion or a forum. We can also use the Unplime.
