Instead of flooding the "It doesn't need a thread of its own" thread with all forms of anime and manga geekery, I thought I'd spare the uninterested from having to wade through all the crap and just make a thread of my own.
So, here it is, the 'Generic Anime and Manga Thread'.

For those who've stumbled in here and do not know what anime and manga is"
Anime is generally defined as Japanese animation, or, less commonly, all animation of the style typically found in Japanese cartoons. Manga, on the other hand, are Japanese graphic novels, and much like many movies are based off books, many anime are based off mangas.
For those of you who have stumble in here and do not know or care what anime and manga is, you've unfortunately wasted a few seconds of your life, which are not refundable.

For those of you who do know and are interested in anime and manga:

To answer my own questions:

Favorite anime: Excel Saga, Code Geass, Death Note, Mushishi, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.

Favorite manga: Hourou Musuko, of the few series I've read.

Most hated anime: Inuyasha *Shakes fist*, Gundam SD Force.

Sub/Dubs/Don't give a rat's ass: Dubs. Can't focus on everything that goes on and read the subtitles at the same time.

Fansubs/dubs or professional subs/dubs?: Professional. If the dubs are unbearable, I'll just avoid the series.

Favorite genres: I tend to gravitate towards sci-fi or comedy anime. Mechs are always a plus, as is a focus on character development as opposed to large amounts of action.

Least favorite: Fantasy, romance, pointless action-fests.

I am currently following a couple animes, Naruto: Shippuuden and Bleach. I should get back into the Naruto manga though... I dropped off reading it a couple years ago when Inane Scanlations stopped releasing translations of it. I only own Wolf's Rain on DVD, but there may be more that come along. The long running ones like Naruto and Bleach just have too many episodes to make owning the DVDs worth the money.

My friends are huge anime fans. One has a massive (and I do mean massive, as in a library, in every sense of the word) collection of anime. I like good action, but with intelligence. Also, some fantasy is good as well. Sci-fi is good now and then, but I also like something to be believable.

Could this be a bit more generic? Something like
"Real and Fake Japanese culture".

I like Hayao Miyazaki's cartoons, I hope it still qualifies for this thread. My daughter is a big InuYasha fan. Probably she could give you more input on this topic.

Miyazaki certainly counts. He's one of the most highly regarded people in the anime industry.
It's pretty hard to be interested in anime and not see at least one of his films.

If you watch anime: subs, dubs, or don't give a rats ass? Subs; nothing ruins an anime character more than the wrong voice.

Fansubs/dubs or professional subs/dubs? Either subs.

Favorite genres? Shoujo Style Magical Girl type, Space fantasies, Techno Sci-fi, Comedy, Religious Parodies.

Least favorite? the ones I haven't watched.

Im also a fan of Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig, Cowboy Beebop, the newer Zoids, Witch Hunter Robin, FMA (the few episodes I've seen)

I've actually just started watching Ghost in the Shell SAC. I've seen it on [AS], but I never actually kept up with it.
Yay for getting the box sets for almost a third of their original price. :3

yay! I love anime but I really don't know a whole lot about it or even where to start. I've seen Akira, Death of the Fireflies, [someone]of the Valley, Cowboy Bebop and some old school stuff from my childhood - ex: unico

edit: I forgot, I've also seen KiKi's delivery service. A girl I used to babysit had it. It was cute. Oh, and I like vampire stuff so any good vampire suggestions will be happily accepted.

I pretty much just use Anime News Network to keep up, since I don't really have any friends who are up-to-date on everything going on, and while my brother is a big anime fan, he's not home very often, so I can't mooch dvds and information off of him.
I'm still not quite up to date myself. I'm a casual fan, or at least casual compared to some of the more fanatical fans. I've really only recently had the money to actually get into anime. I still have to stick primarily with box sets, too.
