I don't really like mechs, so I can't really appreciate the realness or the functionality of that thing. Although, I have to admit that as a little kid I did watch cartoons with lots of transforming crap. I've still got a soft spot for Saber Rider.... :P
Well, even though Pokemon and DBZ where my first introductions to anime, it was Outlaw Star and Gundam that really got me into it, so I owe a lot of my anime fandom to mechs and and sci-fi. Of course, I like Gundam for a lot more than the mechs. Zeta and 0080 have great stories to go along with it(Especially 0080. Gundams are actually more of a plot device than a central feature of the series). Part of the reason I dislike a lot of the newer Gundam series is because they focus a lot more on giant bipedal eye-candy and make the characters extremely bland and incapable of expressing more than two or three emotions (Generally emo, completely apathetic, and annoyingly cheerful).
Also, and the Star Sheriffs (And I haven't seen that series...I should probably be happy, considering how cheesy it sounds. XD).

If anyone has not seen Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo yet, DO IT. I'm on the final DVD now. It's...Exceptionally rare for me to watch two DVD's in a row, but... God damn. Definately one of the best anime I've ever seen. It's art is amazing, the characters are extremely well thought out and extremely easy to like or despise, and the story is just...
Bandai just uploaded the entire first season of Code Geass to Youtube. Seeing as Bandai holds the rights to the series, that's the entire first half free and legally. Aaaand unlike Hulu, is accessible to Canadians.
Dear god, if you've not seen it, do so now. It's just so awesome and ridiculous, and the main character is one of the greatest large hams ever created.

Apparently Akira's been in the works for a while to be made into a live action movie. It's listed on IMDb to come out in 2011 and released by Warner Brothers. Not sure how I feel about that. :/
The only time I saw Fullmetal alchemist, it was in the hated category. My friend turned me on to the series and I've been hooked. Its the first and so far only anime I have seen so I was wondering what is so bad about it compared to the other ones.
