Welcome to Plime! This is just a quick guide for new users to learn how to increase their user level here (the number in the star next to your user name).

Plime is based on Karma. Every action posted on Plime can be rated by other users. Positive ratings add karma. Negative ratings remove karma. As you gain karma points, you move up levels in Plime.

The lower levels are easy to attain. Just join a discussion, comment on a link or forum post and users can vote you up to help you grow.

Once you've reached level 3 you can post stories in the News section, sharing interesting links you've found with your fellow Plimates.

At level 5 you can begin posting images as well. At even higher levels you can start doing things like editing other peoples links (wiki style), helping change Plime itself and even create your own Plimes!

Additionally, the higher your levels, the more powerful your votes are worth when giving karma to others.

Remember, try to be interesting and civil in everything you do here. There are no moderators - only karma - which will dictate your success on the site.

Introduce yourself here (new thread).

This will give others a chance to meet you and can almost guarantee "Instant Karma"

No, there was a specific purpose in linking this as it's own thread. We're hard-coding it in to some places where new users are locked out of.

Join in. Reply sensibly to threads in the forum and posts made in the news section.

Make a contribution to Plime and Plimates will in return upvote you thus increasing your level.

He's at level 4 right now.

So..

1: Add a link, comment, or forum article.
5: Add an image to the image page
6: Edit a comment left by a level 1. (Five levels below you)
25: Edit the Plime Banner.
30: Sleep on the Plime 'Couch'(tm)
31: Downvote a level 1 news-story directly to deleted page. (Goes from 1 to -30 which is low enough to hit the deleted page)


I'm just working off the top of my head here. Not 100% sure about the levels or 'powers' associated thereof.

you now need -30 to delete a post. stops posts being deleted too easily.

Lol. I just realized I've been at level 8 for over a year, even though I visit this site every day.

What a weird, weird world we lurkers live in...

I've been at level 20 for 2 or 3 days. Nobody's noticed.

I've found that mailing twenty dollar bills to all the higher ranking plimates will result in a marked increase in karma points almost instantly.


Just saying.
