Ran across an article about ditching shampoo. Given the quantity of hair I have, and the price of shampoo, I was intrigued. I've always been one of those people who showers every day, shampoos every day, and conditions every day...Which results in about $150 a year in shampoo costs. I can distinctly recall when I started using shampoo (when I was a kid), and how my hair suddenly became dry and brittle, and the difference adding conditioner made, so all of this was like an 'aha' to me.
interesting ... though i should have known baking soda could also be used for this. my sister uses just baking soda to brush her teeth, and i've been using it to shave the bikini. much easier time with the blade.
i've been satisfied with my dimestore shampoo and conditioner, though i barely wash once a week. i rather leave it to get visibly oily before i wash - in my experience, that works like a natural pre-conditioner; after the wash, it's wonderfully thick and silky. very good results from using no-name dimestore shampoo and conditioner.
though, being a half-time college student with no job, it's probably easier for me to get away with just washing my hair once a week.
I've heard of it before. I've been told that with my hair, which is really long and very very curly, that I should try washing with only a conditioner and with a baking soda wash only once in a while. I haven't tried it yet. I'm scared that with the amount of product I use to keep my hair from frizzing that if I don't use shampoo then my hair won't get clean.

I shampoo my hair about 5 times a week and condition it about 3-4 times a week. It's pretty healthy, never feels too oily or too dry. I try to take good care of it.
This sounds like a good idea, if you dont sweat. Your scalp naturally produces oil, (some of us more than others) and a build up of this oil just makes you look like a greasy, nasty mess.
I'm Greek. A lack of natural oils is NOT an issue I have ever had to deal with. It may work for some people, but I prefer to look clean. If your worried about the environment than buy in bulk and be sure to reuse and then recycle. Not that it matters, we're all gonna be wiped out in 2012 anyway...
