I like all the "new" threads. Makes me wonder what it would be like to do not only a karma reset, but and entire Plime reset. That would be awesome.

I see a lot both "If I was you" and "If I were you". Which one is correct? If both are correct do they mean different things or the same thing?

« thirdeye:I see a lot both "If I was you" and "If I were you". Which one is correct? If both are correct do they mean different things or the same thing? I would think that since "I" is generally coupled with plural verbs, the correct sentence would be "If I were you."
EDIT: Apparently both can be used?

« thirdeye : I see a lot both "If I was you" and "If I were you". Which one is correct? If both are correct do they mean different things or the same thing? Were is correct, as Alice is told. Subjunctive voice--you are not me and can never be me. Was implies that you might have been me at some point in time in the past.
But really, that's going on the classic usage rules, and is less common now. So...for precisions sake, 'were' is correct, 'was' is commonly used.

Compared to romance language, English verb conjugation is a haphazard and random thing. With this specific example, it really is based on the mood, not the tense.

It is just too bad there is only plural and singular, I really miss a third type. Like zero, for example with an o at the end.
"Nobody is home" would be like "beo home".
Just to make things simpler.

Edit: Bite me, DL. :D I guess the rules for verb conjugation come from an earlier period than the Norman invasion. Not the viking either. Must originate from some west German language or maybe even earlier, maybe latin.

Must originate from some west German language or maybe even earlier, maybe latin. There isn't really one period. English has stolen from pretty well all other languages, resulting in some words, or categories of words, that follow one set of rules, and others that go completely different directions.
