Given the response to this thread I deem it to be either very ill judged or very well judged to resurrect this thread.

*voodoo hand shakin' stuff*

Shazam.

It lives again.

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I saw Death?

No? Pull up a seat and sit on it. It's not a long tale.

Situation was that I was lying in bed asleep. I woke up, aware of a movement. Now the key thing here is that I woke up. I didn't think I woke up. I woke up. Some of you may be already dismissing this as sleep paralysis/dreaming, etc. and if you're in that boat, I doubt I'll convince you otherwise, but what you should know is that a long time ago I foraged into the world of lucid dreaming, and as a result, I know the difference between asleep and awake. Anyone who has drawn that C on the back of their hand will believe that I know. The rest of you probably won't know what that means.

But anyway, I was awake. And aware, as I said, of a movement. A movement of the kind that there shouldn't have been.

I opened my eyes and sat up a little and there, at the foot of my bed, was a hooded figure. Quite short - about 4'8, I'd say. And not completely real, not completely connected with physicality.

I was watching it, and it was watching me. And that is about it. The strangest thing to me was that there was no malice, no sense of threat. Eventually, feeling that there was nothing really that I could do, that if it was Death and Death were there for me there wasn't a whole lot I could do about it I lay back down and went to sleep.

Now this isn't a tale with any kind of creepy conclusion. No-one that I knew had died that night, no-one was trying to get one last message to me and I didn't mend my ways in any sort of behaviour that was likely to kill me.

This isn't, now that I come to it, a tale with any kind of conclusion at all. When I woke up, the figure was gone and nothing had changed. Or if I did die then the afterlife is remarkably similar to the mortal coil and all you guys are dead too.

But that's how it is. At least you can be fairly certain of the veracity of this tale as few people would invent something so lame.

My mother once told me that she got up and went to the door on New Year's during the night one year, and she saw death standing there. She decided not to let it in, and went back to bed. She's still alive and almost 83 years old now.

Same kind of thing.

A friend of mine, who is a member of plime but hasn't been on for some time, has a bunch of stories. His mom tells the stories the best, we had her tell them one halloween; it was great.

But she's had a lot of contact with the dead. I'll try and point him to this thread and hope that he posts a few, but for now I'm going to steal one of his stories and share it with you.

His mom got an older dress real cheap from a second hand store. I guess it looked real nice or whatever.

Anyway, one day not long after purchasing the dress my friend and his mom were sitting at the table for breakfast. My friend sat with his back to the doorway and his mom sat facing the doorway.

He said that as he sat there his mom's face went suddenly pale and her eyes wide. Then she told him, "I want you to get up and go straight to the church down the street."

And he did.

He found out later that his mom saw a woman walk past the doorway, completely naked. No one else was in the house or anything like that.

She ended up burning the dress and never had another problem (from this one), but after a little research, she found out that a woman had been buried in the dress.

Why would someone dig up a corpse to take off its outfit and give it to a thrift store? Um.. give the outfit away, not the corpse.

Sorry, I don't know why I said "buried". I meant that the mortician put her in that for the funeral showing or whatever. or she was wearing it when she died or something. I'm forgetting the details.

I know death and he's at least 5' 6"

You must've been looking at one of his little brothers, "pestilence" or "famine"

He was such a disappointment, not going into the family business.

I've grown up around the paranormal and still have experiences to this day. he one that sticks out in my mind the most is when my Tio Gianni died.

We were living in a 2 family house, my family upstairs and my uncle's family downstairs, in Elizabeth, NJ. I was about 8 or 9 when this happened. One day I was in the backyard with my tio playing with our dog Angel. My mom called me uptairs to help her set the table for dinner so like an obidient child I started walking up the backsteps. All of a sudden I froze in my place and saw my Tio Gianni lying in a coffin with white lilies surrounding him.

I don't know how long I stood there but the next thig I knew my mom was shaking my shoulders askg me if I was alright. I looked at her and said "Tio Gianni is going to die tomorrow." She smacked me in the face and told me not to talk like that and then dragged me into the house.

The next day I woke up to my mom shaking me again and screaming "What did yo do? What did you do?" I asked her what happened and she said that while my dad and Tio Gianni were driving to work he slumped over in his seat. By the time my dad got him to the hospital the doctors said that he had, had a diabetic anuerism and was dead.

The next time I saw him we were at the funeral and sure enough he was lying in a coffin surroud by white lillies.

I've had a few other 'visions' here or there, but nothing as dramatic as that. Mainly I'll see someone who is about to walk into a store or someplace else and be able to describe them in full detail before we even see them or I'll see someone I know having somethng bad happen to them before it does.

Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but could elaborate on Tio Gianni please?

I'd have taken it for a name if not for the possessive determiner.

I could have sworn I had posted in this thread, but I don't see it so...

My grandparents had a cabin at Old Cahawba, which was pretty much just a fishing camp in those days. Several of us had gone down for a holiday weekend and I was sitting on the deck alone enjoying the beautiful day.

I was looking out across the road at an old Civil War era house that was owned by an old lady we called "Ms. Mattie", and saw her strolling through the yard tending to her roses and other flowers. I smiled at first, happy to see her, and then I remembered that Mattie had passed away the year before.

I stood and started walking toward the house and as I crossed the road, she walked behind a large oak that stood in front of the house. I didn't take my eyes off the spot but when I got there she was gone. I went around the tree and then all the way around the house. No one was there but me.

I went back to Granny's place and found my mother who was in the kitchen preparing dinner. She took one look at my face and said "What's wrong?"
I told her I had just seen something reeallly strange. She just smiled and said "Did you see Mattie too?"

I have a LOT of personal stories. I'll start with just one. My sister and I always knew my mom's house to be haunted. My Mom and Dad were skeptics. On night after dinner, my mom went to take a shower. About ten minutes later, she came running into the kitchen in her robe, hair still wet, yelling "I saw it! I F*CKING saw it!" We looked at her like she was crazy. She went on to tell us that as she came out of the bathroom and into her room, she saw an old woman sitting on her bed.

Weeks (maybe months) later, she was talking to a man she hadn't seen in years at work. The discussion turned to where my parents lived, and the man said, "Oh, the ________'s old house. Is his mom still there?" My mom said of course his mom wasn't still there, they owned the house. The man went on to describe the previous owners mother (who had passed on) and described to a "T" the old woman my mom had seen on her bed.

He also asked if soup could still be smelled when nothing was cooking. That sent a shiver up our spines, and helped explain why we so often thought dinner was cooking, when it was not.

Sleeping Bear's Daughter
The daughter of an Ottawa chief, Sleeping Bear, was so beautiful even the wind took notice, literally pushing her into an unfortunate romantic entanglement. Seeking to protect his daughter from other unworthy suitors, the Ottawa chief put her on an island surrounded by snakes in the middle of the Detroit River. Legend has it that she still roams on the island, Belle Isle. Depending on who you ask, she takes the form of either a woman in white or a deer.

This one I've seen personally.. theres a bridge on belle isle and it's happened to me two night where I saw the woman in the long white gown.. looked more silky than any other material.. but she wasn't white and she wasn't black.. just dark.. but shes always standing at the top of the bride right by the woods.. and theres also one white deer that is always seen roaming with the rest of them.. I saw it while I was smoking a joint in the woods I'm not gonna lie.. but it was clear as day and my brother and 2 other girls were with us and we watched it for about 5mins.. creepiest feeling ever..

We were sitting on our porch playing with a tape recorder acting out a d**k Tracy story we wrote. My dad called me in the house real quick and my friend came with me. When we went back out we wanted to hear where we left off, so we rewound the tape a bit and then hit play. Right after my dad called us in you hear the tape stop and then there are these deep demonic voices mocking us. It's hard to make out what they said for the most part, but at one point one of them said "Hey d**k Tracy, we're right behind you."

We weren't gone long enough for anyone to sneak on the porch and f**k with us, and it wasn't a tape malfuntion. "Hey d**k Tracy, I'm right behind you" wasn't even in the script.

It really freaked us out. My friend still has the tape and every once in a while we listen to it for a mind f**k.
That happened in 1992 I believe. That sh*t still sends chills down my spine when I listen to it.

THANKS MOM...

Of course, those phantom nudges could just be a result of the freaky physiological changes the body goes through when it falls asleep.

until I moved out of my moms house I used to wake up to someone vigorously shaking the bottom right coroner of my mattress that was laying directely on the ground. That still happens to my little brother who stays in my old room. It was scary for the first few years I lived there but it eventually led me to have violent outburst directed at my empty bedroom wall.
