The 10 commandments were our first official christian rules or laws. Those were replaced in the new testament by Jesus with just two, Love God with all your heart and soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.

If you love your neighbor as yourself you wouldn't kill him, would you?

I don't know if I agree that more religious support the death penalty or not.

I support the death penalty. I chalk it up to human imperfection. Yes I know Jesus wants me to do one thing. But every single day I do the opposite. If I was perfect, I would not need His redemption.

I think there are some crimes so heinous it is better to let the killer die than have them continue to be a threat.

Example: Recent local court case. Guy robs and then kills two men; didn't have to kill to rob, as they were compliant, but did it anyway. Then he is arrested, and brags to 4 TV stations that he did it, no he ain't sorry, mocks the families of the victims.
During his trial, he showed no remorse.

He told reporters that if he got life in prison, he would definitely kill again.

He laughed during the families' impact statements, while they cried.

Did the jury really have much leeway to not give him the death penalty? (And no, psychologists found him cold-hearted, but competent to stand trial. No diagnosable psychological problem).

Life in prison..kind of takes away the threat..people don't really escape prison very often these days.

Well, not exactly.
As soon as you have nothing, you have an empty set. That is something, because then you have a set that contains the empty set, which has cardinality, lets call that 1. You see what I am getting at? As soon as you have at least nothing, you can build up mathematics.
This is only one property of nothingness.

The energy states of any quantized field are based on the time coordinate among other things. Two accelerating observers moving relative to each other mostly don't have shared coordinate system, they will see different quantum states and thus different nothing.
Since quantum states are not constant, nothing disappears anyway very quickly because of the Hawking radiation, so you can not have nothing for long anyways.

There is no commandment that says "Thou shalt not kill" the actual commandment in hebrew was "thou shalt not murder".

Depends what translation out of the hundreds you want to use. The KJV says, "Thou shall not kill"

see Matthew from the KJV where it says murder.

In any case I stated the original hebrew, not the various translations.

Strangely this is Jesus quoting the commandments to the Pharisees.

Yet the same KJV says in Deuteronomy 5:17, "Thou shalt not kill"

These are the commandments Jesus is supposed to be quoting.

It appears though that there's a distinction. God kills, people murder.

The Hebrew word you refer to is ratsach.

It can mean kill or murder. (Or dash into pieces).

That's an irrelevance, however. How many Christians do you know who follow as their primary religious text the Hebrew version of the OT?

KJV uses the word kill in place of murder.
