And there were people calling for statues erected in his honor?
Nixon.
Death.
Simple as that, really.
Good point, but Nixon was not an alleged pedophile.
Although Jackson was never found guilty or went to prison for the allegations. It's still hard to forget. He did have a Ranch that was constructed for children, admitted in a TV interview that he had other people's children sleeping in bed with him. 0_0. I don't get the hysteria. Pop Icon, yes. Role model, no. Someone that you would want to emulate your life and honor. Hell No.

His name, however, is synonymous with paranoia, corruption, misused power...
Hell, the unbelievably expensive, destructive, catastrophic failure of the "war on drugs" started from him, he wanted to be seen as a law and order president, and narcotics was the only thing federal law enforcement could really go after.
40 years later, we're still hurling billions yearly at his insane lost cause.

Yup.
And because he's dead, we cannot say enough gushing, wonderful things about him.
Wait until Paris Hilton chokes to death on her own vomit, I will bet you thirty shiny new pennies she gets similar treatment from the exact same media that currently shreds her at any opportunity.
Take the Beatles for instance. They were big druggies, they weren't known for fidelity, but we still associate them with "all you need is love" not the crazy ass stuff that happened later. You remember the good forget the bad.
Or Steve Irwin, everyone was cool with ripping on him, going on about how much he sucked, but the moment he died people began to remember him for all the good things he did for animals during his lifetime.

I always thought Steve Irwin was awesome.
His over-eager demeanor notwithstanding, the man knew his s**t.
I do find it interesting how many "closet" MJ fans there were out there. I used to like him...but he ruined it for me when he started to act like a freak. Yes I associate the man with the music.
Obviously his death has gotten a lot of media coverage (severe understatement). I totally agree that it's annoying and excessive, and to try to answer as best as I can as to why it's happening (as coldbladed already stated), he was an incredible entertainer. His music has influenced so many, as well as his dancing, but not only that, he was a great humanitarian before he took a wrong turn in his life.
Despite what he was accused of, you can't deny his contributions. OJ ran a football, and didn't have a worldwide effect on people. Judas, well no one was around back then to celebrate the greatness of him before he betrayed the J-man....
Michael Jackson died a long time ago for me, which is why I'm so indifferent to it. He was a great performer, let the people celebrate him. A bit longer and he'll slide off the front page, don't get too worked up over it.
He was a music superstar with possibly more fans than many (if not ANY) other star. Yes
He is worthy of all my TV time. No
Even the death of Farah Fawcett went unnoticed by this stupid thing. It's driving me nuts. I mean yes, he made good music, but come ON... Give it a rest already! Thank goodness I was on holiday this weekend so I probably missed most of it, but I can imagine what it was like for others that were not on holiday.
I just read here that President Obama sent a private letter of condolence to Michael Jackson's family. No mention of letters to the family of Farrah Fawsett, or Ed McMahon, or David Caradine, or Billy Mays, or...
Thread Starter : "The first 30 minutes of this evenings news was about a man who was accused of molesting minors, then paid his way out of court, He also hung his young baby over a balcony endangering the childs life."
(I do not like the way the quote tag renders in gray so please don't edit ty)
Well that might be true - or he did not molest but paid off so the negative media would go and his records could sell more so he could pay off debts?
how can we know for sure?
Or is guilty until proven otherwise the norm for celebs or alleged heinous crime doers?
I don't like when they show the same news over and over again. one of the reasons why i prefer reading the paper or watching/ reading news on the net.
stick your butt out and move backwards sliding your feet to moonwalk and then hold your crotch for a minute as a tribute to michael jackson
dance on michael
* not sure about the allegations of abuse against him but respect to the artist
