Chez, I'm sorry for your loss, and I think what you wrote there is a beautiful eulogy and a testament to how much you love your sister.

Yeah. I've filled out the paperwork multiple times now.

Such fun.
I just went through my renewal a few months ago. It's a PI the A. BUT I had my initial that I did 5 years ago to at least use for 2 years of info.

Make sure you print this one out so you have it for your next one.

The interview process isn't too bad. Lots of questions, especially since I divorced since my last clearance. I basically told the investigator that I'm boring. They like boring.

3 hours trying to fix my computer. Cursor was stuck in the middle of the screen twitching. Frantic mouse moving could move it about an inch but it always shot back to the same spot and twitched.

Tried 3 different mouses before noticing that the stylus of my graphic tablet had slipped out of its perch and was sitting in the middle of the drawing area.

I have unplugged it until I choose to use it again now.

How much of my tax dollars was just wasted on sending a giant plane filled with politicians and other VIPs alllll the way to Greece to get the Olympic flame and then bring it back?

Couldn't the plane at least have stopped in Afghanistan for a crew change, or better yet, couldn't the flame just have travelled economy on a jetliner?

It's a piece of fire, why does it need it's own plane? Canadians are fairly humble and friendly people, and I'm sure the olympic flame wouldn't mind flying like one of us.

My boss harrasses me. Well, he's technically my boss's boss, and the president and owner of the company.

He comments on every single thing I wear, my hair, my jewelry, the way I talk, everything. Constantly making fun and picking at me. If I'm eating something at my desk he makes comments about me eating all the time and that I should be careful I don't get fat.

He plays pranks on me. He's put lotion all over my phone receiver, stolen things off my desk, locked me out of my office, pulled my hair and more.

He makes rude comments. I was on my lunch break one day, talking on my phone in the parking lot, when he told me I look like a tramp waiting for a patron...then he asked me if he was the patron what the cost would be. He also has absolutely no problem with doing all these things in front of other people.

I'm afraid to say anything about it, I'm afraid of getting fired. The worst part is that my boss is his girlfriend, so I'm afraid to tell her too.

Grr.

Maybe bring it up, and ask if he 'plays these games' with her as well? See if it's something that's just him, or otherwise, and see if she even knows he's doing it? You shouldn't have to put up with that kind of crap.

Edit: what Moe said.

What he is doing is illegal...and yes if you complain you could lose your job. BUT he should not be allowed to keep doing this. If he fires you or takes company action against you because you ask him to stop, that is an offense he can be sued for. Company presidents are often very acutely aware of the damage a lawsuit can do to their business.

Personally I would:

A) Politely and privately ask him to please stop doing it. Tell him it is making you uncomfortable and is starting to affect how you do your job. I would not ask the GF because she is technically beneath him, corporately speaking.

B) Document every single time it happens thereafter in detail.

C) Start looking for another job. Honestly, do you really want to keep working here if it does not stop?

I have been documenting every single incident since the first one...just in case. I know I just need to say something, but I have a problem though, about freezing up rather than speaking up.
He approached me once and pulled the collar down on my sweater and said he was "just checking for hickies". I felt like my whole body turned to stone. I'm worried that I won't be able to react in any kind of confrontation about this. I'm 28 years old, not a child - I should be able to handle this stuff, but he's got such a strong personality that I've been totally intimidated by him since I interviewed for this job.

Go to HR? You don't have to confront him personally.

Practice what you'd like to say in a mirror. Do it until you feel scripted. Maybe get a friend to help.

And yes, go to HR if you can, but if you're nervous, practicing what you say can help.

She said he was the President and owner of the company. Probably not an HR available.

The women where I work have to deal with the same crap from our boss. He's the owner and it's a very small company. It's not as severe as Mandolin, thankfully, but he will make suggestive comments to us that just aren't cool. Yes, we write them down, but more than likely we will just eventually get a different job.
