« sparklyeyedgal181 : SNOW DAY!

Building snowman with the kids is a much better use of my time.
Ooh! Our snow is already too cold to be sticky enough to make stuff with. Jealous! Well, just a tiny bit.

I think that hiking up the ski hill in town in order to get the very first fresh tracks of the season was worth waxing my rock skis and a VERY good use of my time.

Wait, you ski on rocks?!

....Isn't snow more conventional?

When there isn't enough snow, a few rocks jut out above the snow. They could do damage to good skis in a hurry, but I keep my old skis around and in decent shape for days like this.

Marginal condition skiing is still awesome compared to no skiing.

I don't work for Southwest, or play a stewardess on TV. BUT, some of you might want to know about this pretty outrageous flight sale from Southwest Airlines. One way fares are $25 for travel up to 375 miles, $50 for travel between 375 and 549 miles, and $75 for flights between 550 and 999 miles; more than 1,000 miles costs $100. The fares are available for purchase through tomorrow (Thursday), for travel between Dec. 2 and Dec. 16, or between Jan. 5 and Feb. 10.

Hope somebody finds this useful.

EDIT: Between the time I called Husby about this and the time it took him to make up his mind, we lost out. Don't wait!!

That sounds dangerous and scary, but you're used to that. Me, I'm still awed that snow even *exists.*

Geology shows that fossils are of different ages. Paleontology shows a fossil sequence, the list of species representing changes through time. Taxonomy shows biological relationships among species. Evolution is the explanation that threads it all together. Creationism is the practice of squeezing one's eye shut and wailing "Does not!" -Lenny Bruce

Heheh. In an article about a pageant-winner:

"Winning this pageant is important to her because it focuses more on personality than looks. “I’d rather have personality than looks any day,” she said.
...

As Miss Teen Dallas, Paxton will receive modeling training, which will also include some acting and voice coaching. She hopes to get a modeling contract after her training..."

Because modeling is *ALL* about personality, and not at all about looks!

Would you say the same thing to someone who was getting a basketball scholarship? Cheerleading?

You ask for equality, yet you judge this woman as nothing more than a pretty face for the simple fact that she's using a talent/skill for profit.

« maven : Would you say the same thing to someone who was getting a basketball scholarship? Cheerleading?
If the basketball player/cheerleader said: "I'm just doing this so everyone can appreciate my great personality, it has very little to do with how I perform... and I hope to get a place on X team."

Yes. It's hypocritical.

On one hand she says it isn't about looks, on the other, she proves it is.

Because looks are crucial in modeling?

If she wants to be a model, and she needs looks (not personality) to be a model, then looks = modeling.

Personality =/= modeling or we'd have a very different industry.

Saying "it's all about personality and not about looks" AND THEN saying "I want a job that requires me to look good," is saying that her personality, which is supposedly her reason for doing it, is actually totally inconsequential.

It would be refreshing for a beauty pageant contestant to say "I'm doing it to win," "I want to be considered the most beautiful of the contestants," etc.

Denial just seems fake to me.

You see denial, I see someone who's bright enough to know how to play that game and is using her assets to win.

Nothing hypocritical about it.

I have mixed feelings about this... One of my clients is doing an interview on CNN and wants to mention my name as their designer on national television...

...

Edit to add: I need to get more details on the actual interview itself; taped, live, edited... etc... My client may mention my name, but there may be a small percentage that it would make it to prime time, unless he was carrying a little stuffed rabbit with a top hat on... and that would be hard to 'edit'
