It took three adults to hold a ten year old under water? Seriously?

In other news, Im not easily bored, but at this moment, I'm bored. (unrelated to Klub's drowning a small child)

My bf bought a new gun the other day, and as it was manufactured somewhere in America it came with a buttload of NRA pamphlets and stuff.

We laughed at them a bit, and cursed that they were made on glossy paper so they wouldn't burn as easy, and then laughed that such a pro-America organisation was quite likely using Canadian paper.

I just read them a bit now before throwing them into the fire. They're all about being scared that anti-gun politicians are going to swoop in and remove all rights from Americans and there are big letters and pictures that advise being ready or prepared for the coming storm.

Aside from the sheer awkwardness of using bear arms, I'm not sure how guns will help anyone against a storm. Shooting a blizzard probably won't help.

Wait wait wait...

So there's controversy over this flu clinic and whether or not they cheated to get the shots.

But what makes me angry is this part: " The CDC supplies the vaccine free of charge, with allocation decisions made by the states. Clinics may charge up to $20 per dose."

What?! They get it for free, I pay $20 for it? Talk about a moneymaker for them!

I could understand it if it were $20 to the CDC for producing the vaccine, but it's $20 to the clinic that ordered it? How does that make sense? And why aren't they giving it away for free, if they're so worried about an epidemic?

Stupid.

That likely "covers" the wages for the people who administer the vaccines, the malpractice insurance in case they break a needle off in someone's arm, the lights, the sewage, the garbage collection, etc etc etc.

Sounds like a bargain to me.

I was turned away from the flu shot clinic last week because I wasn't old, a baby, or pregnant, but the doc phoned up and said I'm categorized as higher risk so I can get my shot when I go for my tetanus booster and checkup. All of which will cost me $0.

Higher risk because I work in isolated settings, even though I won't be back in those places till spring.

I can't quite believe the hysteria surrounding the whole vaccine thing and the virus. I consider myself a conscious, ethical person, but I might suspend these ethics to invest in GSK or Novartis or elsewhere in Big Pharma. I'm positive these guys are laughing all the way to the bank.

Eh. I snorted their stupid piggy vaccine to get my mom off my back about it. Judging by the line to get it, they are making a killing.

Honestly I doubt it. Wages and insurance alone probably eat up that $20 per head.

3 nurses. At least 20 people in line while I was there. (for about 15 minutes)

Ok. 60 people an hour x $20 = 1200 Since they don't have to pay for the drugs, that leaves $400 per hour for each person's wage AND insurance.

Right. No profit there at all.

OK maybe the wages and insurance are covered. Then there's rent. And lights, heat, water, gas, sewage, stuff that only a medical facility deals with like biological waste disposal, buying supplies, etc.

And...why would you be angry if they made a profit anyways? They're a clinic...surely you don't begrudge them the ability to do business? If they went away, it would be a lot more difficult for a lot of people to not only get the vaccine, but general medical services.
