So I recently got scammed, big time. And by big time I mean out of $400 in New York. And by me, I mean a friend who went to pick up some tickets for me. In her infinite wisdom she did not check the tickets before handing over the money, and walked away with two (there were at least supposed to be four) fake tickets. Now while I am not the one who directly lost the $400, I still feel obliged to pay it, due to getting my friend wrapped up in the middle of this. While she also was going to see the show with me, and half the of the scam really affects her anyway...
Regardless.
I have the kids phone number. I also have his email.
Now before you jump, I know they both could be dummys. But I can say this, at least once in the transactions did the email come to me from a Blackberry. It was sigged sent from an AT&T blackberry. So I have two questions...
1. Would it be wrong for me to put this kids email and phone number online so people can help me track him down?
2. Is there a way for ATT to figure out which blackberry is registered to the particular email he used?
Thanks for your time.

«muppetmaker : Do we call my police? Or the New York police?
Start with local.
The cell number can be supeona-ed (I do it all the time...not really complicated at all)
I fill out a form and fax it to the cell provider and they give me the information. You are very lucky indeed, that it was a blackberry. Prepaid accounts sometimes have no hard address or alternate numbers to trace.
Doubtful a data plan would not be a contracted service.
There are special internet crime divisions that can handle this as well.
«TraumaMamma : So, you're not going to report this to the police at all?
So he can do it to someone else?
Well, yes I do plan to report him to the police. But we are going to give him the chance to give us our money back before we report him. Its going to happen either way, but at least we will have the sound mind of knowing its over.

Meeting someone who robbed someone of money to get it back is a foolish move in my opinion.
Tiny asian kids are capable of carrying weapons and having friends show up too.
