Ninja Brain Fart

Hey ya'll.
Having a little trouble remembering the title of a movie I saw a good while back that, coincidentally, is a ninja-themed anime. Here's what I can remember:

The main character is a young male who carries a sward as well as a bow and arrow. In one of the first scenes, a giant boar from the forest attacks and wounds him. The boar is (as are several other "evil" characters in the movie) covered in writhing black worms. When he kills the boar, the worms disappear and all that is left is a rotting corpse. He was bitten by the boar and the wound starts to fester throughout the film and it nearly kills him.

I also have other disjointed memories of him killing the boar from atop a log watchtower and a large log city populated by women that he helps defend from evil. Darkness and evil are prevalent themes throughout the movie.

Anyway. I cannot for the life of me remember the title and it's driving me up the wall. Help?

[Edit:] For those of you who are interested, here are links to Wikipedia on Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away. I can highly recommend them.

Princess Mononoke.

You forgot to mention that it was animated. It was recently rereleased here in the states by Mirimax. (recently being "in the last five years", I really need to re-evaluate what I call recent.)Great movie.

Oh. Maybe I just neglected to read that part.

If you liked that I also recommend Ninja Scroll (definately not to be watched among young ones). It is, in my opinion the greatest animated film of all time. It's kind of hard to find in the video store, but is generally easy to find for purchase (and you won't regret the purchase). I recommend reading the subtitles rather than switching the English dub on - the English dub usually doesn't match up so well. (unlike Mononoke, which was tailored to match perfectly with the animated masterpiece.)

Princess Mononoke was written and animated by a man who is thought to be the greatest animator of all time by the Japanese (and it's hard to disagree). His name is Hayao Miyazaki. He is also responsable for such greatness as Spirited Away (another wonderful anime, though not at all action packed) and Howls Moving Castle. Great films all.

I think I saw Spirited Away. That was another one I couldn't remember. About the little girl who goes through the tunnel into the spirit-world and works at the inn? Great movies, both of them. And I'm definitely going to check out Ninja Scroll, thanks.

s**t, I forgot to forewarn you. If you go the Ninja Scroll route, pay attention. They released an animated series after the movie came out and it is TERRIBLE. Make sure you get the movie. This is the one you want.

Check Howls Moving Castle as well. Your kids should dig it. Girls? They'll love it, there's a bit of romance to it, but it's bearable to watch. And, as my oldest daughter once said "Howl is hot".
