I have a couple of questions about the Plime website, can anyone answer?

1. What does the "experimental" tab mean? Why is it numbered?
2. Why doesn't my forum's "interested in" tab on my profile show anything? I've looked at other long time members and theirs list links to all their forum posts. Mine shows nothing at all. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
3. What determines "Popular" - it doesn't seem to be related to the number of up-votes a submission gets.
4. What about those "interests by participation" links in the profile. They aren't always categories, like Plimates is one.. so is WTF and Crime.. where do these come from?

Thanks for helping me understand this fun place to hang out.

1. What does the "experimental" tab mean? Why is it numbered?
This was a modified method for determining popularity, using different criteria than what's on the main page. It's up, in theory under review to see if it's liked more.

2. Why doesn't my forum's "interested in" tab on my profile show anything? I've looked at other long time members and theirs list links to all their forum posts. Mine shows nothing at all. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
The interested in tab used to be populated automatically by the system based on your activity. The code that populated the list was removed, but for those members who were here before hand, the list retains the last update. New users don't get anything added in, and realistically it should be removed from the profile display.

3. What determines "Popular" - it doesn't seem to be related to the number of up-votes a submission gets.

It's determined based on the number of votes with the timeline. In other words, something hits the front page when it gets lots of upvotes right away, even if the total karma isn't as high as for other, older threads.

4. What about those "interests by participation" links in the profile. They aren't always categories, like Plimates is one.. so is WTF and Crime.. where do these come from?

Same as item number 2...an old feature that was partially removed. There used to be categories for all of those items, but they were removed a while back. Call it legacy features. :D

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

Do you know what the little subscript numbers on the right side of the list mean?

Edit (thank you staff tech for answer): The +/- shows how much the link has gone up or down in rank.

Sample : the first one has +1 and the next one has -1

We might - again - be crossing that thin line separating "Frequently Asked Questions" from "in-depth site documentation".

It's not like other users would deny to answer questions going beyond a solid, but not too extensive set of "FAQ".

Given that the experimental tab is working (which it is currently not), those numbers indicate every post's movements up or down in the ranking (the algorithm behind which still seems to be somewhat of a secret) since the last time the tab was updated - I believe Jax said somewhere it should happen every 5 minutes or so, but apparently, it hasn't happened since, well, about last thursday.

Believe it or not, but when you tag your submissions, it is INCREDIBLY helpful to include NAMES.

Whether it's about artists, celebrities, crime, movies - a name among the tags will improve the chances of preventing dupes by about 2000% (rough estimate by me).

Seriously, it works. We should post that all over the place.
Go spread the word.

Warning: Does NOT work for "Bush" and "Obama".

Image Tab Search:

Video Tab Search:

These aren't as accurate as the general Plime (Google) Search; maybe the new tabs aren't cached as frequently as the the news tab, I dunno.
Anyway, tagging your submissions (PEOPLE'S NAMES MAKE GREAT TAGS, too!) always helps improving Plime...

A workaround is to use the main google search but with the site: attribute added - these help with that:
images and videos

news and forums

all plime

speaking of tags, now that the number of tags is limited are the extra ones retained and just not displayed or are they deleted and ignored?

There may already be a topic on adding INTERESTS to your profile. If not, that would be a wonderful thing. Thank you. *bows*

EDIT: Just read Maven's informative post. Thanks for the clarification, now I don't feel so.... uninteresting.

I don't know where Maven's post is but that feature is gone I believe.
I don't really care about that one, but having the friends one back would be nice.

I doubt any that have been deleted will ever come back though.

You can still add someone as a friend, there just isn't the block that shows if they're online anymore. I agree, it would be nice to have back.
