That's an interesting perspective. I've been reading an article on Ecopsychology by Theodore Roszak et al. Guilt about the abuse of the earth, lack of defining milestones and rituals (spiritual), disconnectedness from the earth all are contributing factors to fanatical behavior (not only terrorists but extreme religious movements, gangs, etc).
I more troubled with the current situation of our environment. it is continuously deteriorating and we have to move fast. I understand very less work has been done to this direction and world wide mass education is the need of the day. Can someone suggest how best we can spread the awareness.

« ReBoot : I would think posting it in a website forum thread would be a good bet. :) Thats an amazing idea Bootie! We need to all go out there and spam a little in forums in which we have never ever posted, and in which we may never even return to see the results of our post! As a matter of fact we should begin new threads with some brilliant comment that we made in some other forum and just throw it out there like someone was already having this conversation!
Seriously, I actually don't mind people bringing new ideas around, but the way this one is done is like trying to get to third base on a first date.

I'm all for increased environmental awareness, education, etc. I greatly support the fact that industries should carry their own environmental costs (not let society clean up after them, etc.).
But I'm increasingly worried by the level and type of environmental activism and even environmental terrorism that I see out there.
It is unfortunately true that government institutions are frequently dealing with these issues in a ponderous, bureaucratic and often inept way, particularly in the developing world. Society doesn't trust them to look after our earth.
This creates a gap for various activists and groups to speak out loudly against all sorts of industries, some of which are currently essential to our existence as a human race. When one tries to engage with groups like these, to have some meaningful and useful discussions about the way forward, they tend to disappear like mist before the morning sun, usually even faster.
It's become worse than a fad to "fight for the environment", it has also become an industry. If you can set up an NGO in the developing world to speak on behalf of the environment (or against "human rights abuses" by mining companies, for instance) then you can be guaranteed a tidy cashflow from some organisation in a first-world country, so long as you remain vocal, and advertise the source of your money.
So what are my conclusions after this (too long) comment?
1. The environment (bio-physical as well as social) is under threat, especially in developing countries.
2. Many countries and companies are doing a lot to counter this threat, but more can (and should) be done.
3. Whereas we should all keep up the pressure to ensure increased responsibility, just shouting from the sidelines, without helping to participate in making solutions, is less than useful.
Sorry for the verbal diarrhea, but this is not only my current job, it's also something I believe in strongly.

I’ve been doing an Online degrees on Ecopsychology from www.ecopsych.com “Institute of Global Education” special NGO consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Council. It makes a landmark contribution to personal, social and environmental well being. For the benefit of person and planet, we must support those who want to learn, use or teach this wide-ranging science.

On the one hand it oozes a lot of holistic positiveness and naturalness, etc.
On the other hand it somehow reminds me of pyramids that you can use to keep your apples from rotting...
Maybe it's just me, it just didn't seem very practical, although I would love to
"Activate 53 natural senses to become more

It's possible that I'm just a cynical b*****d.
