In honor of the topic "The Real You" I thought I would ask.
I don't upvote my own comments (though the system seems to automatically give my articles a thumbs up from me).
Mostly just because I don't want to inflate my stats.
I haven't made a moral or ethical judgement, but I was wondering how the rest of you handle the issue.

It would be pretty pointless to do so, as it doesn't affect your stats.
That being said, I've seen some people do it. Nothing wrong with it I suppose.

« steelshooter : It doesn't? I think what Makri means is, while self-votes might be visible to other users (as in the case of Makri's self-voted comment that you just quoted), it does not apply to your own karma. So you can't increase your karma by voting for yourself.
Unless Bornbad knows something that we don't. ;)

I've upvoted myself on occasion by accident. Especially on April Fools Day when I couldn't keep track of who I was. If I notice, I correct it, so not to look like a self-serving karma humper, but since it doesn't really matter, I don't worry about it.

Yeah, doesn't affect your karma, I'm not entirely sure if it counts on leaderboard, other than that it just looks ugly on your profile page :)

Now I've become curious: I checked my earlier submissions and found that some of them are marked as upvoted (as usual, since this happens automatically), and others are actually not. Why? I think I'm going to upvote some of them and see what's going to happen.
EDIT: OK, that didn't affect my karma. Just made my profile look like I was a moron.

It doesn't affect the leaderboard either.
Here's what it does do: Many humans run around like sheep, following the herd and the sheppard. They see someone upvote something and it tends to make them think more highly of that comment, thus increasing the likely- hood of them upvoting said comment.
I upvote some of my comments, but only if it has reached 60 points or higher, and then just because it looks cool with a big number like that.

I usually upvote my own comments, but thats just because they usually kick ass! :) I clearly don't care about my Karma too much because I'm mostly a lurker and don't rape (read: copy) other sites to post here... (like the vast majority do. ) I'm popular as hell in my own mind so I don't usually care what others think... But I do appreciate the occasional tribute...
any one up for a game of JaiAlai?
