People that play video games let their systems idle and use that much energy per year are idiots. No offense.

Also, I would hope, Punthe, that you don't use let yours idle yours that much.

2nd: I read this article earlier and was surprised at the amount of energy consumed. Also, I have to say I don't approve of the title. (lol)

3rd: My cursor is hovering right over the downvote arrow on this comment. I am no idiot. Also, it is pretty ridiulous to think someone wouldn't be offended by that comment... PFFFT... even if you did add the 'no offense' comment after.

That's like saying, 'Hey, you smell like ass... no offense.' It may be true, but that doesn't mean it should be said.

I'm going to go enjoy my 100 calorie fudge stripe cookies now, eh.

On another note. After reading this article which also mentions PC's as being a heavy energy consumer, think aboot how many MORE PC's are oot there versus PS3's.

/food for thought

Oh, I'm sorry. I assumed you took large enough breaks to Plime. I guess you are multitasking or something. Well, in that case, you are some sort of superman.

Also, I must have become confused because I thought the article said that for that amount of energy to be wasted it would have to be used all the time. Which is it?

I think you would agree, it would be idiotic to play all the time. I would be interested to do that, were it not for my desire to feel a productive and healthy member of society.

Wonder how much the distributed computer programs add to this in idle mode.

BUTT LOADS.

The Folding@home program uses all 8 cores of the PS3's CPU. I use that program during the week. I justify it by how much it helps the development and research for desease cures. I have folded over 1,000 work units. One day I may be able to say that I helped cure cancer. Anybody would be proud to say that, eh!

Edit: Just wanted to add that sofsr is partially incorrect. Like I stated, the Folding@home program uses every bit of processing power the PS3 has to offer and is definitely not in standby mode. It also gives the PS3's fans a hell of a workoot too! lol

They're actually talking about it being on idle mode. You can't play a PS3 on idle mode, just like you can't use a computer while it's hibernating.
Basically, if you're downloading while you're away, if you want to use folding@home, or you need to charge your controllers, you use idle mode, rather than completely turning it off.

If I had a PS3, I would invest in one of these:

I would have to have proof that Nintendo didn't sponsor this article!

I almost totally disagree with you on this. It should be said quietly and seriously, but it should be said.

All of these electronic items suck unneeded electricity when they are left on. Not only do they consume power when left on while not being used but it wears them out faster. It's simple, turn them off.
